Indoor plants have been around forever, some would say as long as the world has been turning there have been indoor plants (I’m sure moss could be described as an indoor plant if you found it in a cave… maybe, don’t quote me on that), and it seems that lately the trend is turning living rooms into jungles.
Luckily, if you’re wanting to get on board this indoor plant freight trend (like what I did there?), it’s proven to have some amazing health benefits. NASA’s Clean Air Study researched ways to clean the air in space stations, the results showed that plants were a natural way of removing toxins from the air.
In Australia, we spend almost 90% of our time inside! It makes sense in a world full of technology and high density living to fill our indoors with the outdoors – indoor plants liven up a space, add some style and flair, improve air quality and are all round GOOD for us.
If you’re anything like me you’re keen to add some indoor plant goodness to your space, but may not know where to start – well, never fear, I have done some research for you and even those of us WITHOUT a green thumb can keep most of these beautiful plants alive.
Here are some of the BEST indoor plants to freshen up your home:
1. Succulents
Succulents are lovely and hardy plants that add a lush pop of greenery throughout the house. There are many varieties to choose from and you’ll easily pick a few up from your local garden centre!
2. String Of Hearts
This gorgeous little plant is durable and similar to a succulent in regards to it’s care requirements.

STRING • OF • HEARTS ????☘️ • I just picked up a little string of hearts. She’s soo little. She was in a bigger pot at the shop but the lady offered to repot her into a smaller one and gave me this grey pot for free! I love the look of the variegated leaves against the grey. Hopefully she grows quickly!! ???? A post shared by Indoor Plants Melbourne (@indoorplantsmelbourne) on
3. Cacti
Cacti are wonderfully hardy, and you might be wondering if they’re succulents. They are succulents, though to be labelled a ‘cacti’ they must have areoles (or, plant hairs).
4. Monstera Siltepecana
These indoor plants like indirect light and well drained soil, with the right conditions it will grow very quickly!

My oh my, it’s already Monday! Happy Monstera Monday plant fam!???? This Monstera Siltepecana is still one of my absolute favourite vining plants and I know I can wrap it on a totem for it to climb properly and grow larger leaves, but it honestly doesn’t phase me. I love it, even if the leaves are smaller because the veins on their foliage are bloody stunning. ???????? Hoping everyone had a sweet Monday ???????? A post shared by Dalena ????????
