We asked what meal you always hated as a kid and still refuse to eat, some of the answers certainly made us gag that’s for sure!

I always hated corn meat as child, we called it “red meat”. I will eat it occasionally now though, but it is definitely not a fave.

Lots of you said how much you despise lambs fry, tripe and steak & kidney pie.

While others had some quite shocking food memories and we can totally understand why you would be scarred for life by them.

Top 1o hated dishes include:

Ham and pea soup

Corn beef was a popular dislike

Apricot chicken (still one of my fave meals!)

Smoked cod

Meat loaf also seemed to be a popular hated meal

Egg salad

Even Christmas pudding got a mention. (Have to agree with that!)

Cabbage and brussel sprouts are certainly the most detested vegetable that’s for sure

Sardines (ewwww yes totally agree!)

Weetbix also made the list

What was your most hated meal as a child?

  • eggs I hate as well as smoked cod, christmas pudding and sardines. Actually I hate pretty much all seafood now

  • I couldn’t stomach tripe as a kid ans I still won’t touch it. Won’t even cook it.

  • Mine was the mince stew my parents made, still not a fan lol

  • I hated Brussel sprouts and the spaghetti sauce with the mince already in it. Most disgusting ‘spaghetti bolognese’ I’ve ever tasted

  • I don’t remember my mum ever making me eat something I didn’t like, I wasn’t fussy really. But I do remember vividly to this day (I tell my kids all the time) I stayed at a friends house when I was about 10 and her dad made a curry – yum I thought. But it was full of sultanas, Cloves and bits of apple. It was literally the most disgusting thing I ever ate and I had to to be polite!

  • Brussels sprouts and cabbage are loved here by all 4 kids included. Weetbix is loved as well. As kid I hated Vegemite and still disgust it, 2 of the 6 members of our family love Vegemite the rest don’t.
Ham and pea soup, Corn beef , Apricot chicken, Smoked cod, Meat loaf, Christmas pudding , Sardines and Egg salad, are disliked here (although eggs by itself are loved.

  • I’ve definitely changed my mind on both cabbage and Brussel sprouts as a vegetarian I’m willing to give things a go and I love them now! I hated ham as a kid and obviously wouldn’t eat it now either

  • Smoked Cod OMG I still can smell it. Oh and this sausage dish mum did, it was sausage, sliced onion and sliced potato cooked in electric fry pan just with water. And always served with beetroot. I still like beetroot though.
One I loved as a kid was lambs fry or liver and bacon, do I eat it now? NO WAY!!!! Why then? I was deceived by my own mother calling it French Steak. GRRR

  • I actually love Brussel sprouts and cabage. Never complained when it was dished up and….. I actually can’t wait for May when sprouts are at the best.
It killed me not being able to eat them while breastfeeding as baby got bad wind from them

  • Yep agree with some of these

  • I hated the hot dog sausages Mum made. And brussel sprouts of course.

  • I actually like all of the foods listed in the article – even the sardines – so good for health!

  • Mine is steak and kidney pie. I can’t still remember the smell the texture and the horror. Gaging as I type this

    • Actually – I agree with not liking kidney and liver – just could not eat them.

  • I can’t think of any foods I hated and refused to eat as a kid. I was fairly easy to please and I don’t have any foods I refuse to eat now, apart from seafood, which we never had when I was a kid. I do remember sardine sandwiches in my lunchbox tho. Opening the lid on a hot WA summer day………cleared the lunch shed every time lol

  • Personally I hated eating tripe. And I still can’t eat it!!
