Police have offered a $100,000 reward to help solved the brutal murder of a Perth grandmother – less than three months after her brutal murder.

The body of Valeria Fermendjin, 70, was found inside her Melville home by her family two days after she was believed to be killed.  It appears to Police as if she was killed during a home invasion in which several of her items were stolen.

It is understood that Mrs Fermendjin was murdered on Tuesday, January 5, in her Leach Highway home between 7.30am and 8.30am.

Michelle Fyfe, State Crime Commissioner, said WA Police had never before applied for state government funding for a reward so early within an investigation.

“I can say that this is probably the first time we have gone down this pathway so early in an investigation,” Ms Fyfe said. “We believe that someone knows exactly who is responsible and exactly what happened on that date and at that time when Mrs Fermendjin was murdered.”

In conjunction with the award announcement, Police have appealed to the public for any information regarding Mrs Fermendjin’s death.  They are very interested in hearing from anyone who has come into contact with a distinctive black Russian-made leather bag stolen during the attack.

Ms Fyfe said police had collected a wealth of information after speaking with nearby residents and scouring CCTV and dash cam footage.

  • As if it’s not bad enough, this scum think they can enter someone’s home and steal their personal belongings, but they have also taken a persons life. Most likely to pay for some kind of addiction. Shocking! Hoping they’re caught and punished soon

  • Poor woman. I remember her smiling face. Let’s hope the reward will help to solve the crime and give some closure to her family.
