Children can create a big mess in the house intentionally or unintentionally and parents are mostly the ones to clean up after them. It is part of being a parent and also part of being the adults in your home.

What can help you to tidy up your kid’s room faster? Apart from giving them the responsibility to clean up after themselves is to give them a specific area of responsibility. Nothing says it more than loft beds.

Loft beds are bunk beds but the bottom part is vacant, leaving you or your kids the freedom to design it or make it their own “personal space”. Kids love having their space and it gives them a sense of adulthood.

Ideal solution for kids room

Why are loft beds ideal for your kid’s room? Let’s put it this way… kids have a lot of stuff. They have their toys, their video games and more toys. They have their dirty clothes, freshly laundered clothes and other clothes (indecipherable whether dirty or fresh) lying around.

Imagine how much easier your life will be if all these things are arranged into one area of the house, specifically in your kid’s room. The idea is very appealing, isn’t it?

Here are 3 ways you could use the bottom vacant part of your kid’s loft bed:

1) Storage space

You can convert the bottom part into a small storage space for their toys and other games. You can build-in shelves and cabinets for your kids to put in their toys to avoid the mess around the room. This can also serve a double purpose as their play area so that their toys will not have to scatter around the house.

2) Computer desk

For kids who enjoy their bouts with technology and computers, you can convert the bottom bunk into a computer area with a chair that is themed with the bed.

3) Sitting area

You can also convert it into a sitting area. It can serve as a lounge area for your kids, especially when they have friends over. This is where they can play their tea parties or read books together.

Kids enjoy having their own special space, especially if it follows a theme or colour palette that interests them. Having a loft bed for your kids is also one way to teach them independence and tidiness.

Make sure you ask your children their opinion on what design they would like for their bunk beds so that they can have the theme that they want and this will motivate them to be more responsible.

  • My kids bunk beds were used by them – four of them in one room till we could eventually afford to build on an extra couple of rooms.

  • I had a lift bed growing up and the space underneath was constantly changing! Good fun

  • I would worry about children falling out of bed if the sides are not high enough, the practicality of making the bed/changing sheets, and getting children to their bed when they are not feeling well or on crutches.

  • These are a great idea, aren\’t they? We considered them, but we went with traditional bunk beds for kids to share a bedroom. We\’ve just got plastic boxes under their bed to store toys in.

  • Things scattered sounds familiar. The kids have gone away for the weekend. They were told early to get ready. Missy left her Nightie and knickers on the bathroom floor. I put them in the laundry. I just went in her bedroom and there is toys scattered on the floor in there. I just might leave the toys until she comes home. I didn’t check before she left as I knew there was other people in the car, including 2 toddlers who were asleep.

  • These seem like good ideas and yes the child needs to be involved in the design.
