As mums, we want to create memories that our little ones will treasure forever and so will we.
Providing them with an amazing birthday party will create wonderful moments that they will never forget, and as a bonus, they will feel like they have the best parents ever!
An amazing birthday party has to be fun, suitable for the ability of the birthday child and their guests and original.
Let’s consider a few alternatives to the traditional pass-the-parcel and musical chairs (although those can be fun too, of course!):
1) An ice skating party at a venue of your choice
You can book a party at your local ice-skating rink or hire a special modular synthetic ice-skating surface which, can be set up in any size or shape, in any climate or season.
You can recreate a wintry ice-skating experience (without the chill) wherever you have the room to host a party and have your guest’s ice-skating for a party with a difference.
You could have an ice hockey theme for boys, ice dancing, or Disney Frozen for girls, with artificial snow, plenty of glitter, a snowman piñata and your very own Princess Elsa.
2) A bouncy castle or super slide
Bouncy castles are always a hit with children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers, and even the adults love to have a bounce. Choose a theme and hire a bouncy castle to match, for example, cartoon characters such as SpongeBob or Scooby Doo, knights and princesses, aliens, superheroes, fairies, or monsters.
The great thing with these themes is that paper plates, cups, napkins, tablecloths and party bags can be picked up quite cheaply from the local store, or ordered online.
How about a pirate party if you are struggling for inspiration, just get hold of a copy of The Pirates of The Caribbean DVD for some ideas; think… walk-the-plank, parrots and treasure chests.
3) Superhero sumo suits
These padded suits are a great way to allow kids to charge into each other and fall over with lots of padding, headgear and a padded ring to protect them.
Superhero sumo suits are available so you can go with the theme of your child’s favourite character and maybe even dress up yourself as a surprise for your child.
You often feel like Wonder Woman and now you have an excuse to dress up like her!
Just word of warning from one Mum to another; if you decide to have a go in one of those sumo suits, not only will you look ridiculous but struggling to get back up when you fall over might be trickier than you anticipate. Be prepared for a lot of laughs!
4) Sport party
For a sure way to get kids to run off their energy, have a sport themed party. You could have soccer, or an inflatable basketball court, soccer pitch, or handball hut for bouncy fun. Ask your guests to wear their sport’s kits and trainers when you send out the invites.
Organise matches or challenges such as goal scoring and have lots of prizes to give out to the winners (and losers!).
5) Inflatable climbing wall
There’s no doubt that children love to climb so why not invest in hiring an inflatable rock climbing wall for your little one and their friends! As a mum you’ll rest assure that the kids will be landing on something soft while the kids challenge each other to climb as high as they can. It’ll literally be the ‘best birthday ever’!
If none of the above ideas appeal to you, how about an obstacle course, a bungee joust, bungee trampolines, bouncy boxing, zorb balls on water, a gladiator ring, a bucking bull for cowboys and cowgirls, or Go Karts for a Formula-One themed party.
Don’t forget the kid’s ‘champagne’ aka juice pouches and medals for the winners! These are just a few ideas to create an unforgettable birthday party for your child.
