Spring is often a time of dusting, turning out cupboards and cleaning clutter in the home.

Did you know you can extend the rejuvenating power of spring into your business?

Here are 5 easy ways to help you clean out your business and usher in a new direction and growth:

1. Bring out your Ol’ business plan

Remember the document you first wrote a long time ago before starting your business and is sitting somewhere on your computer’s hard drive neglected? Bring it out to see what your original direction and goals were and how close or not you are currently sitting in your business.

It’s a great way to evaluate where you’d envisioned your business to be, if it’s tracking in the right direction or if the whole plan needs to be revised.

2. Read and revise customer documents

If your business sends out proposals and documents to potential customers, now’s a great time to revise those documents and see if anything needs to be changed or deleted. Freshen it up with a new template perhaps?

3. Check your LinkedIn profile

When did you last edit your LinkedIn profile? With the platform becoming the choice for business minded professionals, add any new skills, awards, e-courses or speaking opportunities you may be available for. Think of it as updating your resume!

4. Tackle your ‘I’ll do it later” list

Hand on your heart, every business owner has one of these stashed away in a corner of their workspace. The I’ll do these later list often weighs heavily on your mind so pull it out, check what tasks are pending and blitz through them for a fresh start! Start with the biggest task first in terms of time e.g. reorganise filing cabinet and work your way down to the smallest one e.g. open Facebook account

5. Declutter your inbox

I subscribe to various newsletters which I think will come in handy at some point but never get around to reading them. If that’s also you, either move them to the promotions folder (as in Gmail) or hit Unsubscribe. The less tech clutter in your inbox the lower your stress and guilt levels!

Happy spring cleaning!

  • Good tips, thanks.
Number 5 resonates greatly for me. I have been actively cleaning out & unsubscribing from various websites in order to get on top of my email. Sometimes they would accumulate so much, I’d get scared to check my email, just knowing it would easily be over 100 a day.

  • Sometimes doing those annoying little jobs saves you a lot of time and money in the long run. Pick a time and reward yourself with some new stationery or something when you have done it.

    • Absolutely! it’s great to give yourself an incentive to lessen the pain of the process.

  • A good spring clean is needed at my workplace as well – but I need to find the time!

    • I recommend tackling the jobs in chunks otherwise it’s too overwhelming especially with children!

  • Don’t have my own business, however every few months I go through all of my social media accounts and do a big clean up, delete, unfollow, block, update. I have a number of different email folders due to testing products and like to give them a good clean out as well, keeps everything running smoothly.

    • That’s a great strategy to do a regular sweep. Definitely reduces the tech load!
