Here are 5 FREE things to do this school holidays with the kids in Perth:

  1. FREE MOVIES. Every Saturday from October to April at 5:30pm there are FREE movies in the park. Take a rug and a picnic dinner and enjoy a cheap family night out. Please see website for session information HERE.
  2. RIDE THE RAILS. Perth have a FREE bus and train service within a zone in the city. My kids love travelling on buses and trains and it’s great they can get a ride for free. Check out their website for maps and more information HERE.
  3. KINGS PARK. These botanical gardens are one of the world’s largest city parks. It’s a great place for a picnic, bushwalk or play, there are some great playgrounds and also a natural play area for kids. For more information, see their website HERE.
  4. VISIT THE FOREST. Located in Whiteman Park, there is a Children’s forest with many exciting things for the children to discover and explore. The “50 things to do activity sheet” will keep the kids busy and active. See their website for more information HERE.
  5. ADACHI PARK. On the banks of Swan River are a Japanese themed park and a great playground. It’s a perfect place for a day out with the kids. For more information, check out their website HERE.

There are also many other parks and beaches in Perth where you could easily spend a FREE day out with the kids.

  • Love these ideas , had not heard of ADACHI PARK so will have to look that up. Getting a family pass for transport is great as can travel anyway in the Perth area and not cost much. My younger ones love the train and always want to go on the ferry when we hit the CBD.
If going to Serpentine Dam take your own food as very expensive but a great day out, just be careful around the lookouts and that small stones some are slippery.

  • Wish I could go and visit King’s Park again – a truly beautiful place and hard to find the locals there unless they have visitors.

  • I will have to check out the Adachi Park. Kings Park is very nice indeed. We live south of Mandurah and going to Mandurah is also a great way to spend a day. So many chances to meet dolphins! And kangaroos too!

    • The chance to meet dolphins is pretty special!

      • Yes, there are so many. And they are so friendly. No need to take a cruise. You could just see them while walking at the foreshore. :-)

  • Yaaay some Perth stuff!!! We’re in Rockingham and love the foreshore….the beach is gorgeous. Or take the ferry out to Penguin Island (there is a small entry free) and bring a picnic too. Also love watching the kite surfers in the afternoons in Shoalwater. City Park in Rocko also has an awesome playground.
A trip out to the hills is great…especially Serpentine dam or Araluen too. Perfect for flora and fauna lovers.
Or why not a visit to your local public library? There are 3 in Rocko and all have story telling sessions. Check them out over the holidays
