It can be hard to keep the kids entertained during the Winter holidays because the weather can make it hard to get out of the house. Luckily the Winter holidays only last for 2 weeks!

Here are 5 great things you can do with the kids to help keep them entertained:

  1. Ice skating: Garema Place in Canberra will be turned into a Winter Wonderland for three weeks. You can ice skate, toboggan or ride the giant inflatable slide. There will also be European food stalls and markets. It’s on from 23rd June to 17th July. Prices start at $8 including skate hire.
  2. Sport: The Australian Institute of Sport run a large range of fun sporty holiday activities for the kids including, swimming, soccer and lots more. Prices vary on activity. Runs both weeks of the school holidays. Located in Bruce.
  3. Drawing: The National Portrait Gallery runs an explore time with drawing and creative activities. Price is $5 per child, adults free. On July 2nd to July 17th at 11am.
  4. Mini golf: Located in Griffith the Power Kart Raceway has a magnificent glow in the dark mini golf course that will thrill the kids. Prices start at $8.
  5. Movies: Winter time is perfect for seeing a movie and Hoyts have great family ticket prices. With “Finding Dory”, “Ice Age 5″ and “The BFG” all out these holidays, you may even want to go more than once.

  • At the right time of year, I’m not sure how out it is you may actually be able to go to the snow on the peaks of the high mountains. Friends of ours stayed in Canberra with friends there, cxould see the snow in the far distance and took their kids there. They have photos of their kids at the edge of the snow. They didn’t drive too far into it as they didn’t have snow chains, probably not the right treaded tyres on their car for snow either. I know it had new tyres put on it when it was serviced. The owner is a safety fanatic. There is plenty of museums there, and the National War Memorial. It depend on the age and interests of you children for that. It has the most beautiful dome ceiling and stained glass windows. Simpson and his Donkey Memorial Statue is near the actual memorial building

  • We recently spent some time in the ACT and it’s a great place, and very educational for children. The National Museum is just fantastic, and there are tours of Parliament House that both adults and children would find interesting. I also really enjoyed spending time in the Old Parliament House.
