Winter holidays can be hard to keep the kids entertained as the weather can make it hard to get out of the house. Luckily the Winter holidays are only 2 weeks!

Here are 5 great things you can do with the kids to help keep them entertained:

  1. Lego: St Jakobi Lutheran School in Lyndoch is hosting an amazing Lego brick display with amazing works on show. There will also be a kids play area with a jumping castle and more. Kids can even enter their own Lego masterpiece in a competition. On 16th and 17th of July. Prices start at $10.
  2. Cubby: Head to Belair National Park for a day of fun cubby building. On 21st and 22nd of July. Cost is a gold coin donation.
  3. Ice skating: For the month of July, Glenelg will be transformed in a Winter wonderland, when an ice rink will be installed in Moseley Square for ice skating and snow play. Skating prices start at $7.50 includes skate hire. Snow play prices start at $5. Open 2nd to 31st of July.
  4. Museum: The SA museum has an extensive and hands on holiday program events that will keep the kids entertained. Most events are FREE.
  5. Movies: Winter time is perfect for seeing a movie and Hoyts have great family ticket prices. With “Finding Dory”, “Ice Age 5″ and “The BFG” all out these holidays, you may even want to go more than once.

Check out some great indoor games to do with the kids in the holidays HERE.

  • I love Adelaide. We spent time there over the summer. They had great shopping at Harbour Town, I always think walks along the beach are fantastic no matter what the season, Adelaide Oval is a great sporting venue… just to add a few more to the list.

  • For touristy things if you want to venture out of Adelaide.
In the Adelaide Hills at Gumeracha – The wooden toy factory and the giant rocking horse which you can climb. However I recent heard there is a charge for that now. I believe there is also a small animal sanctuary there. I don’t know if there is now a charge for that or not. Probably to cover Public Liability Insurance….Hahndorf is a town of German heritage and worth a look around. Lots of shops you can visit – you don’t have to buy anything if you don’t want to. Some very reasonably priced cafes if you wish to visit one, some old style German Hotels. A couple of lovely parks.
For something unique and free, up the Barossa Valley direction at Williamstown is the Whispering Wall Reservoir. If you stand in the right spot (there is signs at both endsand it is fenced) you can talk to the person at the other end of the reservoir wall and hear them quite clearly. You don’t need to talk loudly or yell. Even kids love it. The only other one like it in the world is in Sweden. There is also a picnic area there. Unless it has since closed, on the left side of the road as you head back to the main road there is a small cafe. The reservoir area is open most days (not about some of the public holidays such as Easter and Chrismas) except high fire danger days. Not sure if it high temperature restricted as well or not – probably would be classed as high fire danger days anyway. There are various activities and picnic spots in the Barossa Valley + wineries if the adults are interested. There is quite a lot of picnic areas if the weather is nice, some of them are along the River Torrens.

  • It is very hard to find things to do for young teenagers. Yes there are the movies but that still keeps them inside. They need activities to keep them interested at low prices. Bunnings quite often have activities for teenage children as do Spotlight and the local library. Even Office works have some school holiday activities. Wish they could all be advertised with times, age suitabllity etc. for all to see.

    • Great ideas. My daughter is on Uni holidays and we are going to head down to Glenelg to do some ice skating.
