It can be hard to keep the kids entertained during the Winter school holidays because the weather can make it hard to get out of the house. Luckily the Winter holidays are go for 2 weeks!

Here are 5 great things you can do with the kids to help keep them entertained:

  1. Museum: The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery in Hobart have hands on school holiday activities for the kids. Entry is FREE. On 7-9th and 14-17th of July from 11am to 2pm.
  2. Library: The libraries across Tasmania run a wide range of exciting school holiday activities for the kids.
  3. Ice skating: The Glenorchy ice rink is a great place to visit this school holidays. Prices start at $7 including 2 hour skate and skates hire.
  4. Mini-golf: Adventure mini golf in Moonah has 2 18 hole courses and has been rated as one of the best mini golf experiences in the world. Open everyday. Prices start at $10.
  5. Movies: Winter time is perfect for seeing a movie and Village have great family ticket prices. With “Finding Dory”, “Ice Age 5″ and “The BFG” all out these holidays, you may even want to go more than once.

  • We do all these, although the last 3 tend to get a bit expensive. We enjoy family walks in winter. Love getting out in the cold crisp air and checking out nature. Just cos it’s cold, doesn’t mean you have to stay inside

  • id imagine, snow and freezing weather

    • Yes there may be snow on top of one of the well known mountain peaks. The name escapes me at the moment. The wind is very strong up there when there is a mild one in Hobart. Be careful when you open the doors of your vehicles. The wind could slam them into you or “rip” them out of your hands. We went up there in a coach and the driver parked it facing in a particular direction and gave us strict instructions re the door and where it was safew to walk – all becuase of the wind. The scentery in Tas. is spectacular. In Winter – Spring you need really warm clothes when outdoors. We were there in mid Sept. If you are driving some of the roads are very windy. If you suffer from motion sickness you will need medication or another method that helps you. Some of those roads are quite narrow unless they have improved since we were there.
