Stranger Danger is something we all want our kids to be aware of, we want them to be safe and happy. It’s ALWAYS a good idea to brush up on some tips to help keep your child safe, it may even save their life.

Here are 8 tips to help keep your child safe.

1. Don’t keep secrets about your body

Make sure you teach your child that if anyone asks them to keep a secret about their body, they tell you as soon as possible – the sooner you can learn about any worrying behaviours towards your child, the sooner you can ensure it stops.

2. If a car is following you, run in the opposite direction

Teach your child that if they feel a car is following them, they should turn around and run in the opposite direction to the car. This will save them a little time and help them decide where to run to.

3. If a stranger grabs them, all bets are off

We do our very best to teach our children to use their manners, though if someone grabs your child, tell them they are allowed to kick, punch, scream and generally make a BIG scene.

4. Scream out things that gather attention

If a stranger grabs your child, teach them that when they do scream, they should be screaming things like HELP ME or I DON’T KNOW THIS PERSON, HELP! People are used to seeing kids yelling and being carried out of somewhere having a big tantrum, though if your child instead yells something out of the normal, it will gain attention.

5. Make up a code word

Work with your child on coming up with a code word that alerts you to a dangerous situation. They could yell out this word if you are close by, or if you have older children, they could text it to you should they be concerned about a situation they find themselves in.

Hopefully the above tips can help keep your children that little bit safer in today’s world.
