If you have a small living room that feels even smaller, follow a few of these tips and tricks to make your living room feel more spacious.

1. Define your your zones

If your home has a fairly open but small floor plan, there is no need to worry! Try defining your zones more to create the illusion of a larger space. By using rugs or furniture arrangements strategically, your living area will seem bigger than it actually is. Avoid allowing zones to intermesh, such as the dining area and living room.

2. Get a decent sofa

A way to guarantee that your small living space will always look small is to put in a small sofa. By using a small sofa, you are essentially succumbing to the fact that the living space is small, and it will visually look smaller. However, if you place a fairly large sofa in your living area, then you will be able to create the illusion that the space is bigger than it actually is. It also has the added advantage of allowing your living room to accommodate more people.

3. Be risky in furniture arrangements

Many people who have small living spaces tend to push their furniture right up against the wall in order to maximise space. However, doing this can actually make an area appear more cramped than it really is. Try instead arranging your furniture away from the wall. Place some indoor plants behind your furniture and in front of the wall in order to make the area seem larger than normal.

4. Be elegant

Just because your living space is small doesn’t mean you can’t use luxurious colours and furniture! Try going for a classic colour scheme that creates a formal feel within your living space. You can also try using armless couches, which saves space and adds a touch of elegance to your living space.

5. Maximise your storage

If you really have to store things in or around your living area, try using floor to ceiling square store shelves. These make your room feel larger as they give you perspective on how high your roof is. Keep this storage sleeve looking tidy and categorised in order to have a clean feeling living space.

So there you have it, five simple things you can implement in your living room today!
