Keeping the house clean can seem like a constant battle. Kids running around with dirty feet, pets leaving hair everywhere, toys littering the house, does it ever end? Maybe not, but you can follow these great tips in order to get the upper hand in the battle with dirt and clutter!

1. De-clutter systematically

Cleaning the house of clutter can be a demanding task, going from room to room picking up individual toys and clothes is so slow. Instead, use a laundry basket to clean with maximum efficiency. Work from room to room picking up all the things you can, and chuck them in the basket. Once every room has been done, go back through each room one by one and put everything back. This will avoid you walking around the house multiple times.

2. Deodorize

Deodorize you home! This is a sure fire way to make your home seem cleaner and more efficient. A good way to do this is to open up all your windows and blinds around the house. Light some scented sticks in each room, and turn your fan on its lowest setting. Leave until the night, and your home will be smelling beautiful in no time!

3. Don’t waste time and energy on baked on foods

If you find that you waste a fair amount of time scrubbing away at baked on foods, then this fix is for you. Mix equal parts White Vinegar and Dish soap in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture onto baked on foods and let sit for 10 minutes. While this is happening, you can clean something else in your kitchen/home. Simply wipe away after ten minutes.

4. Have labelled bins in each room

If you find that your children can’t quite grasp the concept of throwing away their rubbish, consider using a small office bin in each room. This will make it easier for them to get rid of their rubbish properly, and make it far faster for you to clean the rooms every week as you only have to empty the bins (hopefully!).

5. Clean before vacuuming

Follow tip number one before you even consider vacuuming. We have all started vacuuming the house and then found that we have to pick up cords and junk that is lying around. Pick up all these things first so you can vacuum the house in one fast and efficient go.

6. Use rugs  in high traffic areas

If you find that there are areas in your home that become dirty very quickly as a result of high traffic, consider using a rug. This will trap dirt, making the area seem cleaner, and also make it easier for you to vacuum when need be.

My kids are at the age they can tidy their own room (except for my youngest but she doesn’t have much in her room to tidy), so I only mop, wipe the window seals and clean their bedding. The living area gets tidied together by my kids before dinner, my husband vacuums and I mop afterwards. Bathroom & toilets daily is a quick job and kitchen gets used and tidied throughout the day. Personally I’m not keen on rugs at all, they catch too much dirt and causes the danger to slip.

  • A little bit every day keeps the house tidy and especially if you put things where they are meant to be right at the start rather than leaving them somewhere else. Thanks for the tip about the dried on baked food – that’s one tip I will take on board.

  • I always told my kids to put things away as they go and to spend a little time each day doing some cleaning or tidying, that way it doesn’t get over whelming

  • I pick one room each week and give it an extra good clean from top to bottom. There are only 9 rooms in my house and I can have a week off before I start again.

  • I first tidy up the rooms, dust and vacuum just at the end. Decluttering regularly is so important. Yesterday I put order in the pantry for example. Now it’s a lot neater and I know more what there is inside. I tend to “forget” what there already is in the house.
I open the windows regularly. It really makes the difference. But I want to try that deodorizing idea. Thanks for it!!
