Hello!

Doing up your face is probably the last thing on your mind when you have juggle nappy changes, feeds and erratic sleep routines.

Well, it doesn’t have to be that way.

Here are six easy-peasy beauty and make-up hacks that every mum can squeeze in, even when you are pressed for minutes!

1. Coconut oil for soft, glowing skin

Think the whole cleansing-toning-moisturizing routine is too much work? Club it all into one with a bottle of coconut oil. Packed with fatty acids, proteins and Vitamin E, coconut oil is your night cream, body lotion, under eye cream, makeup remover, lip balm and hair conditioner all rolled into one. Keep one bottle in your bathroom and another by your bedside with a few cotton balls and you’ll never feel guilty about neglecting your skin.

2. Put your lippy to work

You’ll be surprised what a single lipstick application can do for your everyday look. Bright popping shades make your face come alive and draw attention away from imperfections. But that’s not all – dab a little across your cheekbones for an instant flush and if you feel up to it, you can use some on your eyelids as well. The trick is to use a creamier lipstick as opposed to the dry, matte-y kinds.

3. Flawless face in seconds

When it comes to face coverage, who can be bothered to go the whole mile? A tinted moisturizer with SPF is the perfect investment, not only because it does so many jobs at once, but because it is more forgiving even if you miss a few spots here and there. If you must, keep a concealer stick handy to fix the more troublesome spots.

4. Glam-up your hair

The key to well-put together hair is to not battle with your hair’s natural texture. Steer away from high-maintenance routines like curling, straightening and ironing and instead, get a chic wash-and-wear haircut that works well for your hair type. Pro tip: Stock up on dry shampoo so that you never have to step out with greasy hair again.

Ponytails, buns and braids look cute and keep your hair safe from those sticky little curious fingers. If you have a few extra minutes, add some spunk with clips, hairbands and bandanas.

5. Salon-perfect hands and feet

Visiting a salon for a manicure and pedicure may seem like a far-fetched dream but that doesn’t mean your extremities have to look less than perfect. Whenever you can afford the luxury of a long-ish shower, say on Sundays when Daddy’s home, use that time to scrub and file away your hands and feet. Apply a quick-dry nail polish in a softer color so that chips and imperfections don’t seem too obvious.

6. Wake up your peepers with mascara

Mascara can redeem tired, sleep-deprived eyes like nothing else, which is why every mom should have one in her handbag. Quick tip: Pull up your eyelids with the edge of a card for non-messy application. Also, give the liquid/gel eyeliners and kohl a miss and opt for smudge proof pencil eyeliners instead. They take less than a minute to apply and don’t make raccoon eyes look worse.

There. That seems easy enough doesn’t it!

  • I’ve discovered having my eyebrows and eyelashes tinted is a great time saver and I don’t have to worry about smudged mascara or trying to apply it with one hand while nursing bub on my hip ;) you can buy a kit for about $15 (enough for plenty of applications) and do it yourself in 10 minutes

  • I only just got onto coconut oil a few months ago. You can eat it in cooking, you can put it on your face, on your cheekbones for highlight, and the same on your lips. I use it as a treatment in my hair and leave overnight and wash out the next day….it is great.
