Hello!

Being a new mum is the most wonderful experience a woman can go through in her life. You constantly find yourself doing the weirdest things for your child and his or her well-being.

In my work, I was constantly surrounded by women who have kids or who were new mums, and I learned much about raising a child. Of course, experiencing it in reality is a totally different thing. Even your husband cannot understand you as well as another member of the mommy tribe. Being a part of these informal groups of mums is the best strategy for dealing with the stress and issues raising a kid brings along.

The shared tips and hacks are sometimes lifesavers, and no other person can give you a really good advice than someone who has really gone down this road.

Here are some of the most ridiculous situations and crazy things mums do in the name of their children:

Peeing with someone else sitting on your lap is totally acceptable.

As long as it is your kid and you’re all alone in the shopping centre’s restroom or anywhere else. With a little baby to take care of you suddenly become (and feel) like two entities in the one body, and you can basically forget visiting the bathroom on your own ever again.

You completely change your cooking and eating habits.

Now you have to cook, and on top of that, the meals have to be healthy. Goodbye to instant noodles, fast food and takeaways. You eventually find yourself making meals a week in advance and you don’t even care that this is the eighth night in a row you’ve eaten savoury mince on toast.

Who said Cartoon Network should be watched only by children?

You suddenly discover with a great astonishment that kids shows are quite funny and enthralling, and you really have to see how the latest episode of Sesame Street will eventuate.

The commotion caused by a dropped bottle or dummy.

It happens all the time! You are walking in the park or grocery shopping when you see their dummy rolling on the street or under the shelf with diapers. You might think in such cases women slog to the nearest restroom to wash it, but I can tell you – it is not what moms really do. In the best case they will wipe it off and pray it didn’t catch much dirt during the seconds-long stay on the ground.

The Playground courtesies.

As much as you try to avoid contact and enjoy your privacy and solitude, starting small talk with the mother swinging her child next to yours is sometimes an inevitable step, especially if both of you are regular visitors to the same playground.

Texting becomes a really difficult exercise.

Suddenly, you’ve kid-dialled every person in your phone book and sent a lot of texts full of emojis. But no worries, people who know you are raising a kid usually understand. Others will too, eventually.

These years are short when you look back on them, and despite all of the mishaps and your inability to spend five seconds alone to use the toilet, you’ll wish you had that little bit more time with them when they were younger.

  • It takes months to read a book where as before children you would read one in a day.

  • Some little ones like to “help” put the washing away. Beware it probably no longer folded and possibly put in the wrong place.

  • I found putting the clothes away with young children in the room was next to impossible. The quicker I put them away, the quicker they threw it on the floor. Good times

  • Lol! I actually do enjoy some of the kids shows.

  • It is impossible to try and work with a baby in the house, or on your lap while you’re trying to work the keyboard. Life will not change, not will it revolve around your child. Good luck with that! In the end, it has to.

  • Peeing with children on your lap in public toilets and sometimes your own made me laugh as I remember it well. And when your child starts to speak and commentate on what you might be doing you have to laugh.
