Some people complain that the work of teaching young minds is stressful. On the other hand, some find it rewarding.

The difference comes in the methods the two types of people use in teaching the young minds. Learning is a continuous interactive process that takes place on different platforms. It’s important to understand that children require different methods to learn different things.

It is not all about books and whiteboards. It is about learning the behaviour of each child and understanding how well they learn. The information helps you in employing the appropriate techniques to facilitate their learning.

1. Online Education

Some children learn best through the use of online education techniques. There is a wide range of learning that can take place through video games, tutorials, and creative content. The internet tools help the children to learn by providing visual aids to enhance knowledge acquisition. The method facilitates active participation of the young minds due to the visual appeal.

The children can conduct research online on the projects they receive from the school. The child can become exposed to a wide variety of content which broadens their minds and imagination. The only limitation is that there is no control over the content. The child may end up using online content not appropriate for them if there is no supervision. It works both ways; online education and in-person tutoring both have their positive and negative side. You need to decide here which method is best suitable for your child.

2. In Person Tutor

One on one tutoring is one of the most effective methods of teaching young minds. It is especially ideal for children who are slow in learning specific subjects such as mathematics. Some children do not like expressing themselves in public. In person, tutors will give the child an opportunity to learn and ask questions.

The benefit of the method is that it gives the child personalized care which enhances learning. It can help the child create a rapport with the tutor who helps the child learn. It is easy for you to see the progress of the tutoring. Accountability is therefore not an issue as the tutor will have to work. The only disadvantage is that it can be stressful looking for a tutor. Before you find a tutor who can teach your child in local areas, try finding one on any of the online sources. Where all you have to do is fill your set of requirements in the tutor.

3. Homeschooling

Most parents resort to homeschool their children instead of taking them to school. It is sometimes suitable for children who have difficulties fitting in due to various factors such as disability. When the child does not learn well in school due to fear of stigmatization, it is good to confine them to an environment they know best. The parents ought to enact great educational philosophies for homeschooling. It helps in enabling the child to differentiate between a parent and a teacher.

On the bright side, homeschooling can help the child learn better because of the familiarity with parents. The strong relationship and the knowledge parents have on their kid, helps them teach the kid well. However, the only challenge is that it can be sometimes hard if the child cannot differentiate between the mom as a teacher and as a parent. When that happens, the child may end up not learning at all.

4. Experiments

Experimentation is the most rewarding method of teaching young minds — the fact that the approach is hands-on means that there is active participation. Children love things that they can touch and manipulate. Experiments provide a platform where children can engage in activities where they see outcomes and use their senses.

It is suitable for sciences such as

• Biology

• Chemistry

• Physics

Such subjects are practical. It is hard for children to forget things that they learn practically. It, therefore, helps in retaining knowledge. Children can apply experiments in their homes such as purifying water. Children can ask questions and explore various things by manipulation of laboratory parameters. There is increased creativity, exploration, and discovery.

5. Aura Teaching

Aura teaching involves learning through the use of sound. The sounds can be storytelling or in the form of songs. Aura learning breaks the monotony of reading in classrooms and listening to teachers all day. It is an active form of education. It is impossible for children to forget songs, especially those with favourite tunes they know. Take for example “the head shoulder knees, and toes song.” Adults still remember how to sing that song years after finishing school.

Storytelling attracts the children attention due to variation in tonal voice and storytelling techniques. The process of learning new songs helps children learn how to recall what they learn. To make the learning process enjoyable, use the most popular tunes the children know.

6. Physical Learning

Physical learning is a way for the children to put into practice all that they learn in the classrooms. It helps the children to express themselves through creativity. Young minds have different abilities and ways of expression. When organizing for real life learning , avail all the necessary materials that are diverse. The strategy allows the children to select what they are comfortable doing. It can involve:

• Building structures

• Acting

• Drawing

• playing games

• Entrepreneurship

A child can put in practice entrepreneurship skills by developing a product or service and selling it profitably. The child can discover their talents and abilities through physical learning.

Subjects such as English and mathematics are best taught in the classroom environment. They require the students to think and solve the equations logically.

When it comes to learning pronunciation in English, children can learn from one another. They can share and encourage each other. Student’s interactions take place during class time. The students can have strengthened relationships that can help them learn more through group discussions. The children can acquire social skills while interacting with other kids from different backgrounds and opinions. It, therefore, increases confidence and life skills.

  • I know a child who will be home skilled as she is very ill if she comes into contact with one particular medication which can be bought in a supermarket. No school nearby can guarantee that another pupil hasn’t taken the medication within 10 -12 hours and won’t touch the child or his/her things at all. The child has acutally stopped breathing. Fortunately they were at a hospital when that happened so CPR was used immediately. The child has had strokes and it’s possible the medication may have contributed to it as too much exposure can cause brain damage.
