Book Week 2023 is just around the corner, and you’re in one of two camps; you love Book Week and have been planning the kids’ costumes for months, or you’re desperately searching for last minute Book Week costumes.

If you’re in the latter group, you’re in luck! We’ve done all of the hard work and research for you, and uncovered some of the best last minute book week ideas that you can whip up a couple of days before, or if you’re really under the pump – the night before the Book Week parade!

This year, Book Week is being held from August 19-25, with the theme Read, Grow Inspire. Whether your school teams with the theme, or kids are able to go as whatever character they like from their favourite children’s book, there’s a costume here for everyone! We’ve also added a few last minute, easy Book Week  ideas for teachers.

  • I can’t wait until my kids are old enough for book week. A great initiative to get kids into reading. Some creative ideas here. I will try to help my kids do something well known but original so there aren’t three kids in her class with the same costume.

  • The thought behind book week is well intended but i am getting tired of thinking of a costume each yr for my 2 boys and in another two yrs, there will be 3 boys to dress up. Everyone is going crazy with the level of competition and i feel like i jist cant keep up with it
