When Dana Olsen was left just six weeks before her planned wedding without a groom, the jilted bride thought of others, not herself.
Speaking with KING5News, Dana was planning her wedding in Seattle, Washington, when her fiance got cold feet and backed out of the big day.
“Pretty much immediately I thought about the fact that my family had paid for almost the entire wedding, and I knew we wouldn’t be able to get most of it back,” Olsen said to the news station. “So after the shock of what had happened wore off, I started to think about what to do. I just couldn’t stand the thought of it being wasted.”
So out of a sad situation Dana decided to turn her predicament into an act of kindness for others.
Dana and her mother, immediately changed their focus and contacted the Mary’s Place Shelter in Seattle. Their idea was to plan a one-of-a-kind event for the women and children who reside there.
Ditching the wedding and reception that was originally planned, the new event will host 150 women and children, giving them all a fully catered meal, live music, professional hair and makeup application and lots of dancing.
“I love that hopefully a lot of people will have a really fun night,” said Olsen. “I just want it to be really fun. I mean, if we can’t have a good night, I hope that they have a great time.”
