Hello!

The new year is upon us and like most people I like to set myself some goals.

I’ve planned a few things I would like to do this year – but my daughter inspired the one I would like to share with you.

One of her goals this year was to visit 5 new places, so my goal this year is to try 5 new activities I haven’t done before.

I’m already one step closer. My family and I hired some Stand Up Paddleboards last weekend. We had so much fun. They weren’t as hard to use as I thought and we actually got a great upper body and ab workout. Mind you we were on still water and had beginner boards – but you have to start somewhere.

I’m not sure what my next new activity is going to be – but I will keep you up to date. Maybe I’ll learn to surf!

Why don’t you try and find some time to try some new activities this year? Have you been on a bushwalk lately, what about flying kites with the kids, you could try snorkelling or indoor rock climbing? You could even ask the kids what they would like to try.

Tennis is a great sport to try – you can often hire local courts very reasonably and the whole family can have a go. You don’t have to be great at it – just give it a go.

It’s great for kids to see their parents doing lots of activities.

They will see this as the normal thing to do, so as they grow up they will automatically add activities into their lives.

If you are one of those people who prefer a more organised activity, then see what sports you could join in your area. Some to look at would be netball, indoor soccer (futsal) if you prefer to be indoors, or even join an outrigging club if like me you love to be outside.

These are just some suggestions – I hope you feel inspired to try some new things.

I would love to hear what other activities you and your family are going to try. Why not share in the comments below.

  • No, I’m still lacking inspiration. My years drag out from the old into the new, no differences, nothing new. Same old same old

  • AWEOME idea! My son suffers from anxiety and we’ve been speaking about how everyone needs to do something that pushes themselves this year. Your idea of 5 ‘new’ things is much less ‘scary’ and a great way to spend some quality time as a family. I’m off to brainstorm….

    • I’m so glad you have been able to use my idea to help your son.

  • Great idea. we have decided this year instead of a big holiday to instead do lots of day trips to places closer to home

    • Sounds like a great idea. Some times we miss some great places close to our homes.

  • What a great idea – trying five new things and going five new plans is so achievable and is something that you can have the fun of researching and planning. You have motivated me to do the same… Thanks

    • Thanks Jenni! I love that they are fairly low pressure – could be a big project or just something fun to do one weekend. Have fun!
