A mother was allegedly confronted by a homeless man on a Sydney beach who told her; “This is not your baby. Give it to me. I’m taking it”.

The terrifying alleged encounter between 38-year-old Ronnie Ramirez and a new (unnamed) mother, 31, has been revealed in court documents.  The incident occurred as she lay relaxing on the sand at Bronte Beach last Monday with her seven-week-old baby boy on a towel beside her.

The woman told police she feared Mr Ramirez was going to “take her baby and kill him,” as he proceeded to lunge at her son and shove her to the ground as she tried to stop him.

The Central Local Court heard through a police statement of facts that was tendered, that Mr. Ramirez had attempted to grab the baby whilst telling the boy’s mother: “This is not your baby. Give it to me. I’m taking it.”

The fact sheet goes on to state, “The victim shouted, ‘Help, call the police.  Whilst doing this the victim heard the accused say things such as ‘This will be his last thing to eat’ and ‘This will be his last breath before he dies’.”

Police reported that the woman suffered minor injuries as she struggled with Mr. Ramirez.  Three lifeguards came to her aid and pulled the man away from her and the baby.

Mr. Ramirez was arrested and charged with attempting to take or detail a child and common assault.  It is said that he was two weeks into a six-month good behaviour bond at the time of the alleged abduction attempt.

Court documents note Mr. Ramirez had no fixed residence and listed his address as Bondi Beach.

Mr. Ramirez did not apply for bail on Tuesday and it was formally refused by Magistrate Les Mabbutt.

A Justice Health report has been ordered to investigate the accused man’s “apparent mental health issues”.

The case is expected to return to court in April.

  • You expect to be safe in broad daylight.
The new Mum should have the guy charged with emotional abuse too. She is very fortunate that the 3 lifeguards were on the spot to assist her. In a couple of months they possbily won’t be there.
