Singing sensation, Adele, opens up about motherhood to 3-year-old son Angelo James. WOAH hang on a minute, has it really been three years? No way!

Our favourite female artist, Adele, recently spoke to i-D magazine about her new album 25 and what it is like for her as a mum.

“It’s [bleeping] hard. I thought it would be easy. [I thought,] ‘Everyone [freaking] does it, how hard can it be?’ Ohhhhh. I had no idea. It is hard but it’s phenomenal. It’s the greatest thing I ever did. … It used to be that my own world revolved around me, but now it has to revolve around him.”

“I gave birth a few nights before the Skyfall premiere, that’s why I didn’t do anything for it. He was about to drop out my fanny at, like, any moment.”

It has left her very unsure about any more children in the future.

“I’d like to tour properly. I’d like to see Britney [Spears] in Vegas. Dunno about more kids. Maybe … I’ll go into acting … I’d like to make another record. I’d like to be able to stand the test of time and the speed that the world is moving. I’d like to make records forever with the time I’ve been given for this one. If I can do that, I’ll be really [bleeping] happy.””

  • I guess you do think ‘oh i’ll still have time to do things when he/she grows up a little’ but it is really hard to do things for yourself once you have had kids :)

  • OMG.. yes its hard but to put it into the context that she did was a bit bizarre. My 4yr old son has Autism and he is a struggle but when i have to describe motherhood i say it is absolutely blissful. I would concentrate on being there for your son then worrying about what britney spears is doing in vegas…

  • Motherhood came as a complete shock to my system. You look at all the ads with a mother and baby in it and think “what am I doing wrong? My home does not look like that and my baby is not looking as clean or as happy and contented as that!” Wake up advertisers most of us stumble through motherhood, it did not come naturally to me!

  • Motherhood is definetly challenging and very hard work but the times that you hear your kids laughter and the unconditional love they give makes it all worth it. Good on Adele for admitting that she finds it challenging.

  • Oh I love an amazing talented individual whom can speak openly and honestly, its quite refreshing. Motherhood is one crazy roller-coaster ride, ride the highs and the lows cherish the moments cause they dont last. I, like Adele mistakingly thought it would be easy, but no its hard, its challenging, its emotional, but…..its bloody brilliant!

  • I think motherhood is a wery hard thing for every new mum, especially for young mothers. Even harder is if you are a single mother, and you have to rise your child on your own.

  • I have never heard of any new mother who within 6 weeks was not suffering from an equal amount of sleep deprivation and shock. However, most of us go back for another don’t we. It’s like anything else wonderful in life (learning to play an instrument or become a doctor) you work hard but the rewards are unbelieveable. Is it worth it? Yes. Can anyone with the best will in the world explain it to a pregnant 1st timer Nope there is no way. Do we all suffer when we have to leave them to go back to work (where we get morning tea, lunch breaks, adult conversation, to go alone to the loo & PAID). Yep usually more than they do. Little Lachlan is just over 9months old & says mum, mum, mum, mum, mum – worth it just for that.

  • No, I don’t think being a mum came as too much of a surprise to me. I agree with Adele, it’s bleeping hard, but by far the best thing I’ll ever do and do rewarding

  • It’s not being harsh. It’s being honest. Having kids is hard work – you use up every ounce of energy and everything you have into raising kids and building a home.
Just because she wants to concentrate on her career and not have anymore kids at this stage isn’t being harsh or selfish.

  • yeah good for her for standing her ground when she was about to have her child. Adele seems really down to earth and she stays out of the public eye

  • Motherhood came as a huge shock to me at the age of 18. Then again at 21, 22 and 23… As hard as it is, the good times certainly outweigh the bad, and everyone handles it all differently! =)

  • Yes it is daunting being a mother, i learnt along the way from my children, mostly, if they are healthy and happy, yes you are busy, but its such a rewarding job.

  • Motherhood is like waves – sometimes little waves, big waves, calm waves, rough waves. Hanging on and riding the waves is important and sometimes we may even need help to ride those waves!

  • Yes it was hard, and still is at times but I wouldn’t have it any other way
