With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking of how you are going to celebrate your love with that special someone in your life. While the normal roses, dinner and a glass of wine is all well and good, this year, step out of your comfort zone with something a little more adventurous.

There are plenty of options for an adrenaline-charged Valentine’s Day, from the novice adventurer to the adventure seeker. Here are our some of our favourites for an adventurous Valentine’s Day.

Kiteboarding

Also known as kitesurfing, kiteboarding blends characteristics of wakeboarding, surfing, windsurfing, snowboarding, paragliding and skateboarding – that’s a whole heap of sports that combine into one adventurous day out on the water. Essentially you are harnessed to a large hand-controlled kite, and using the wind and a board, you glide straight across the water.

Kiteboarding comes with plenty of the benefits often associated with adrenaline activities – stress relief, immune system boost, increased concentration and of course the new experiences that come with trying a new activity.

There are plenty of places to try your hand at kiteboarding, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to try before the season ends.

Jet Ski Tours

Get up close and personal with marine life on a jet ski tour. There are various options around the city, many where you can see dolphins, seals, sea birds, pelicans, and more. Spend a couple of hours out on the water and then head back to shore for a beachside lunch. This is a great way to try jet skiing without spending the money on buying jet skis and getting your license.

Dive with Sharks

Take the plunge into the shark tank at your local aquarium.

If you live near Perth, The Aquarium of Western Australia offers a thrilling shark dive. A dive or snorkel into the shipwreck coast aquarium will have you come face to face with sharks, stingrays, turtles and schools of fish. A great way to face your fears and enjoy a safe way to test your adventurer limits. Dives are only open to qualified SCUBA divers.

SEALIFE Sydney and SEALIFE Melbourne also offer Shark Dive Extreme experiences, which would certainly get the adrenaline rush going this Valentine’s Day.

Back in Perth, if delaying Valentine’s by a couple of months is possible, why not take a few days out of the city and head to Exmouth where you can take a Ningaloo Reef tour. Between April and July you can swim with the whale sharks, while August to September allows you to swim with the humpbacks. Can’t wait? Dive in the World Heritage Marine Park or take an Eco-Kayak tour.

Drifting

Get the adrenaline pumping with a drift car ride. Strap yourself into the passenger seat and get ready for a fast, loud and powerful ride around the track. The rides may be short, but your heart will certainly be pumping afterwards! Depending on where you go, you may even get the chance to drive a few laps. If your significant other is into motor racing and activities that get the adrenaline running, a drifting lesson may well be a, adventurous Valentine’s to remember.

Hot Air Ballooning

If you don’t mind being up early, take your loved one to watch the sun rise in a hot air balloon. Experience the tranquility that is dawn breaking as you watch the patchwork landscape below. Many ballooning companies also offer a champagne breakfast after your flight. If you’re looking for an adventurous yet calm activity to propose to your loved one in style, a hot air balloon ride at sunrise may be the key to them saying yes!

Skydiving

Not many consider a skydive as a Valentine’s day out however there’s plenty to be said for jumping out of a perfectly good plane over a stunning location together.

In WA, Rottnest Island is a picturesque place for your skydive, whether it’s your first time jumping or your twentieth. With altitudes ranging from 8,000ft to 15,000ft, not only will you feel the adrenaline coursing through your body, but you’ll get some amazing views on the way down.

Want to take your Valentine’s sky dive to the next level? Skydive Geronimo offers a “Marry Me” proposal skydive package. Both you and your partner will do a tandem skydive over Rottnest Island before landing on the beach. A large sign on the beach will be set up to read “Marry Me?” in letters big enough to be seen from 1,500ft (approximately the last 2 minutes of your parachute ride).

The Skydive Geronimo team will make sure the person proposing lands first alongside the sign, where you can get down on bended knee or choose your own unique style to propose. You’ll even receive a bottle of sparkling wine at a local beachside bar to help you celebrate your engagement. Oh Wow!

  • There is safer types of motorsport that are considerably safer than drifting.
For those on a tight budget and want to go out to dinner I know couples who go another night when prices are considerably lower, there is a lot less people about, and more intimate for you as a couple. I know a couple who always go out on the Monday night after Mothers Day and Fathers Day. There’s also a lot less noise and you can actually hear your own voices without yelling. Ihis may not sound romantic but if giving flowers give silk ones. You will have them forever, not just for a few days
