A kind air hostess stepped in to breastfeed a crying baby after the child’s mother ran out of milk on a flight.

Patrisha Organo, 24, saved the day on an early-morning flight in the Philippines on Tuesday when she noticed a passenger’s baby crying hysterically after take-off.

She approached the mother and found she had run out of formula milk, before taking it upon herself to feed the child in the gallery.

The stewardess, herself the mother of a nine-month-old girl called Jade, said she knew the trauma the mother would have been going through, shares Daily Mail.

She said: ‘As soon as I heard the child’s cry, I knew there had to be something that I could do to help.

‘When the mother told me that she had no formula milk for the child, and I knew that there was none on board, I knew I had to help.

‘I knew that I could offer my own milk, as I had been breastfeeding my young child myself, so offered up my services.

‘The mother of the child was so thankful for me helping, as she had been at the airport since 9.00pm the previous night.

‘As soon as the baby started rooting and feeding from me, I saw the relief on the mother’s eyes and eventually her daughter fell asleep.’

‘The helplessness you feel when you cannot feed your hungry child is horrible, so I had to step in.

‘She had been at the airport since the night before so had ran out of milk during the actual flight, which is what caused the baby to cry.

‘As soon as I could help the baby and the mother I felt so happy – I cannot put into words how fulfilled I felt.’

Before leaving the plane, the grateful mother continued to thank the flight attendant for helping her when she was at her most vulnerable.

She added: ‘After I had breastfed the baby I escorted her and her mother back to their seat.

‘But later on, just before I left, the mother sincerely thanked me for all of my help.

‘I knew the flight was going to be special to me, as I had just received a promotion in my role, but I didn’t realise it would be this special.

‘I breastfed a stranger’s baby in flight, and I am just so thankful for the gift of a mother’s milk at times of need.’

  • Wow, what a wonderful person to step up (but there are still dangers associated with this.) The mother was stuck at the airport – could have bought more formula…. (or they don’t sell that?). THis is why breastfeeding is best. ALWAYS available.

  • If the mum of the baby was okay with it then no-one else’s business. Personally I wouldn’t want another feeding my baby. Can’t imagine why she didn’t have enough formula with her on a flight.

  • Whilst it is great yet another mum can do this I am a little concerned a child will get bacteria transmitted and a good deed will be turned upside down

  • I think it was extremely kind of the hostess to be so caring of another mother’s distress. Hard to do anything else when you are flying so high – doubt the baby would have been happy with warm water ladies.

  • for those saying they would never have run out of formula, the woman had been at the airport since 9pm the night before, maybe the flight was delayed?

when i was born, my mother PND and wouldnt feed me. there was a woman in the bed opposite who had her daughter on one boob and me on the other. i got the nutrition i needed in the first few days of my life and ive turned out fine. i cant believe people would rather their child scream from hunger than have another woman feed their baby

    • People can run out of things for sure – airports and airlines – I thought usually had a supply of these things in these situations? It was lovely act by the woman and no one wants a baby to be hungry and upset.

  • So many comments supporting this. Still not for me. I would never have run out of formula, I always packed more then I needed of everything when travelling with kids. Be prepared

  • Surprised that the airline did not have formula on board – thought they kept some in reserve for these situations? A kind act by the attendant to assist a mum and bub in need.

  • The air hostess did the right thing in helping. This was not some person off the street but someone who has to live to certain standards for her job. Yes the extra milk in hospitals is tested, so different. Who knows why this mother ran out of formula, she was lucky this time.

  • Very generous of her, all health concerns aside. Doesn’t sound as if there was any other choice really.
