Hello!

Yesterday, I joined the crowds of Aldi shoppers to get our paws on Aldi’s popular Lacura Caviar beauty range, which is released as a Special Buy once a year.

It was mayhem in my local shop and in the crush to get the products, one of my earings was ripped from my ear (ouch!). My earhole may be a victim but at least I managed to get my annual haul of Caviar to keep my skin wrinkle-free (hopefully) over the next year.

But many shoppers haven’t been as lucky (or perhaps pushy) as me. Some have taken to social media to air their woes. Many complained that early shoppers managed to get their hands on boxes of the treasured cream, leaving disgruntled shoppers in their wake.

The Copycat Cream Is Ten Times Cheaper Than Branded Creams

My whole annual collection of the Caviar cream (at $19.99 a jar) cost the same amount as two jars of the exorbitantly-priced branded face cream I used to buy, before switching over to Aldi’s brand. And I find the cream to be really effective, so I can understand why it’s popular.

While my Caviar loot is mine and only mine, others are getting sneakily entrepreneurial and taking advantage of the shortage and putting their stock on eBay at a massive mark-up.

One Aldi fan page shared a screenshot of the moisturiser listed on eBay for as much as $100.

“It’s crazy and just plain greedy,” Tammy from Aldi Lovers Australia told news.com.au.

“We all know stock is limited, so to do that and take advantage of the situation is just selfish.”

  • Everyone just has to learn not to support these people on ebay. Once they find they have no buyers they will stop.

  • Never heard of it. Seems Aldi has a lot of products that people line up for.

  • How much is it normally at Aldi? I didn’t get any but it must be amazing.

  • Up to Aldi to put a limit on each person’s purchase to stop this trend, but once they have sold the goods and made their profit why would they worry? Don’t use this cream so am not upset myself.

  • No I wasn’t able to get some unfortunately.

  • Wow, who knew their skin product were worthy of such crazy behaviour.

  • Aldi should put a limit on special buys.
This weekend will be CRAZY with the snow gear. I’ve seen it happen while making the mistake of doing a grocery shop on the Same day.
As with the cane Liu he’s they had last year. I saw four adults team up just to get their hands on 1 cane lounge.

  • Wow! I’d never heard of this cream and do not use it. However, simple ALDI, put a limit on purchase eg. 2 per person.

  • I was at one store opening (by coincidence not prior planning) and couldn’t get over the mayhem of some shoppers. One customer was trying to manhandle 4 lawnmowers to the checkout (you CAN only use 1 at a time, right?) Another woman abused my husband when he tried to help her lift a lawnmower into her trolley before she dropped it properly – no we weren’t stealing her special buy, just saw her struggling, and no apology or thanks. So we got our essentials that we came in for and got out of there before more bedlam….

  • I think Aldi should be enforcing limits. 10 in a basket per person really is a bit OTT.

  • It’s like this when snow gear is released. Hubby had to fight people off. If you take your hand off something it’s gone- it’s like confessions of a shopaholic! Only by pure luck did I eventually find a snow jacket in my size after someone returned it.

  • Definitely should be limits on these most popular products. I would assume the reason Aldi does it is to get people in the store. If there is no incentive, well eventually the people will cotton on and not bother. Sadly, we don’t have Aldi in Tasmania.

  • I don’t go to the special buys anymore, I can’t stand the poor behavior from others and the stress it causes me

  • Some supermarkets do have limits on some products. I’m surprised Aldi doesn’t.
They do advertise some products but carry very few of them. I know somebody who was at a store the time as she always is after she has taken her children to school early the the stock hadn’t even arrived. She was there when the store opened one morning in really bad weather. There was only 2 other customers – who didn’t buy that particular product – and there was none there.

  • This is just crazy – I think there should be a limit if people are buying excessively.
