This video will remind you to check your shoes before putting them on today!

In Australia, the practice of leaving your shoes outside out of politeness for the homeowner is just asking for trouble.

When his son left his shoes outside, YouTube user Moderate Hyperbole posted this video of the creature that made a home in his son’s shoes.  According to Yahoo News it is a funnel web spider – one of Australia’s deadliest spiders.

Proving that you really need to check your shoes before you put your toes anywhere near them, the highly poisonous arachnid had easily constructed his funnel shaped web in the shoe.

The video shows a dose of fly spray and a stick helped draw the unwelcome guest from the shoe.  It is extremely lucky the spider was found before the shoe was worn – a bite from a funnel web can be extremely serious if not treated immediately.

Any how I never leave shoes out side.. purely for this reason.
If you must leave shoes in a garage, shed or out side, place them in a sealed plastic bag and remember to shake and bang the shoe.

  • Ah I hadn’t thought of using a stick. We live on a property and kinda have to leave some shows outside. There’s usually some spider Web if there’s a spider, but I always give a bang and shake anyway.

  • We never leave shoes outside – not even steel cap boots. too many stories like this one around. The laundry is a great alternative.

  • I wonder if spiders are more likely to invade shoes if they are left outside…..but on the other hand they are sneaking creatures and spin webs around/under/above anything. I got bitten by a spider while staying with friends. I didn’t see it but I certainly felt it. It quickly became red and imflamed then some of the skin peeled. I went to the Dr. and was given strong antibiotics + antihistamines to take for a few days as it was obvious I had been scratching it during the time I was sleeping.

  • As a kid I got bitten by a scorpion that was hiding in my shoe. Ouch I always checked after that and found plenty more spiders hiding in there
