Her daughter’s kindergarten teacher demanded that the mum explain why she had packed so much in her school lunchbox.

A surprised mum has taken to a popular facebook group to tell of her lunchbox embarrassment after her daughter’s kindergarten teacher contacted her to question the amount of food she had packed. Sharing a photo of the lunchbox along with her post, the mum admitted she is still figuring things out as she has never had a child at school before, but feels what she gave her daughter was a reasonable amount of food for the day.

Prepared For Anything

The mum pointed out that just because she included something in the lunchbox didn’t guarantee it would be eaten. “I explained to (the teacher) that she is a fussy kid, so one day she will eat something the next day she will act like it’s poison and not touch it,” she said. “I’m also trying to teach her a variety of foods because all this kid would eat is nuggets and sausages and eggs if I let her. She is also very active. So I would think after a huff and puff session, she would be feeling hungry.” The mum went on to say that the lunchbox was for both recess and lunch, and despite being generous, was full of mostly healthy options.

Unfair Criticism

Subscribers to the page were quick to rush to the mum’s defence, saying that the teacher was out of line to question her judgement. “This infuriated me,” wrote one commenter. “Your child is fed. Whether it’s too much. Whether it’s not enough. Whether it’s packaged. Whether it’s organic. You are sending your child with something. You are trying. You are being a mother. You should NOT be questioned!” Others agreed with the teacher saying it was too much food for a five year old. “Eleven different types of food does seem a little excessive considering she only has an eating window of about thirty minutes over the course of the whole day,” said one concerned parent.

While we’re sure the teacher had the best intentions, it can be a struggle to create the perfect school lunchbox five times a week, especially when your child has just started school, so we can totally relate to this mum’s experience!

  • As parents we just cant win. No matter what you do with your child there will be someone out there to tell you that you are wrong and they are a better parent then you ever could be.
The response over this lunch box should be “I pack my childs lunchbox my way but if you would like to take over and do it your way than I am quite happy to hand the job over. Would you like to start as of tomorrow or do you want a weeks notice?”

  • I’d rather my child be looking at it over looking for it, if you catch my drift. My child is the same as this mums child, and I pack like this mum to.

  • Crazy, better too much than not enough?

  • Who cares who packs what I’d prefer my child to have more then less so she wouldn’t go hungry as long as they are fed

  • Far out. It’s stories like this that give me anxiety about getting it right or else I’ll receive rude notes..

  • I can’t see anything wrong with what this mum has packed for her child. It’s a lot better than packing chocolate and chips. Plus she would know what her child would eat anyway.

  • This mum is doing a great job. Its a nice selection, Health and allows the LO to decide what they would like. I always pack extra and what doesnt get eaten always comes home. Including any rubbish(be nice if that went in the bin) but i at least know whats been eaten.

  • Since when does any person have the right to tell you what to put into a child’s lunch box especially when it all looked very healthy choices. I have heard some out Rude.notes in lunch boxes. It’s gotten out of control & I would have told the teacher to mind her own business. I’m 58 years old & we never had this witch hunt going on when my children went to school. Today’s parents need to stand up & say enough is enough!
