Is the cat out finally of the bag about the name Andy Murray and wife Kim Sears have chosen for their newborn daughter?

According to the Mail, a family friend has revealed during an interview that the couple have named their new arrival Sophia Olivia Murray.

The couple welcomed their firstborn on 7 February, and speculation has been mounting ever since that they would choose a traditional Scottish name for their little girl.  Bookmakers have even been involved, listing Freya, Alexandra and Elizabeth as favourites.  But, it seems the happy couple have turned against tradition and chosen the pretty name Sophia, which is Greek in origin and means ‘wise’.

No photos or further details have been given about the baby, although we do know that she weighed 8lbs 10oz at birth.  Andy and Kim are believed to be keeping a low profile spending time as a family unit in their family house in Oxshott, in the UK.

Andy’s grandmother, Ellen Murray previously revealed that Andy phoned her directly to let her know the good news.  “Andy phoned and said ‘congratulations, you’re a great granny.”  She said, “he told me the baby was 8lb 10oz when she was born. It’s wonderful news.”

“I don’t really know about her name yet but I hope we’ll see them all soon,” she added. “I’ll be looking forward to a cuddle.”

“I am absolutely delighted, as you can imagine.” Ellen continued, “It seems a long time that we’ve been waiting for this but all’s well now as far as I know. I don’t have any details, I just know that I’ve got a great granddaughter so that is just lovely.”
