Another Pregnant Australian woman diagnosed with Zika virus

A pregnant woman in Victoria has been diagnosed with the mosquito-borne Zika virus.

Health officials confirmed the news on Friday morning.

The Australian government has advised women who are pregnant or who hope to become pregnant, to reconsider trips to countries affected by the virus.

Recent outbreaks have raised concerns that infection with Zika virus in pregnant women might cause certain birth defects including microcephaly, a severe birth defect in newborn babies.

The Victorian woman is the second pregnant female to have contracted the illness in Australia.

On Tuesday a southeast Queensland woman was diagnosed with Zika after returning from Tonga where she had been visiting family.

Nine News reports the diagnosis is not a public health risk, as the virus does not transmit from person to person.

It is unsure where the woman has recently travelled. But she did return from a holiday to one of the affected countries.

I would hate to be this lady – however it is wrong to say an outbreak cannot occur here as we don’t have the right mosquito to transport it. The virus is also transmitted by sexual actions and in saliva.
Anyone who has low immune system would be at risk if they were in contact with this lady

Avoid travelling. It’s not worth your baby being born disabled!

This is probably just the tip of the iceberg. So difficult, as avoiding travel in the early stages of pregnancy is not as easy as it sounds. Truly hope all is ok for her and her baby.
