As the Coles Little Shop promotion draws to a close, parents desperate to complete the set have started to take their frustrations out on the supermarket.

With only eight days to go before the supermarket stops selling the collectables, frustrated parents say they are “disgusted” that they are being denied an extra toy after falling just cents short of the required spending limit.

“Went to Coles this morning and $0.40 short for the next collectable, I asked if I could have the extra [to which they replied], ‘No you can’t’,” one woman wrote on the Coles Facebook page after her FlyBuys discount saw her total spend fall from $69 to $59.40.

Another woman said she was also denied a second item after spending $59 only to watch another shopper given free range to pick her desired item despite not meeting the $30 threshold.

“So disappointed. Going through fast checkout, lady in front of me purchased 2 items, milk and dishwashing liquid. I am sure that doesn’t come to $30. But she was given box of ‘Little Shop’ to rummage around in and see if she could feel the one she was looking for,” the infuriated shopper wrote.

Complaints keep rolling in….

However many people have backed  the supermarket saying rules are there for a reason.

“So where should the cut off be?” one woman asked.

“One dollar difference? What if you spent $28? In my opinion it should be a hard & fast rule. Every $30, no exceptions or else it becomes unfair.”

“This is getting out of control… don’t people have better things to complain about?” one man commented.

“Wasn’t this meant to be a fun idea for children to do?” one person replied.

“Wow! With everything going on in this country and you have to whinge about not getting a silly little toy! No words!”

“It’s a plastic toy!”

  • If this is all someone has to worry about in life then its a pretty good life isnt it?

  • I was a little disappointed to miss out by 6 cents as my niece is going to use them an educational toy as well as just collecting them as the little one has allergies and may have to be home schooled

  • Wow so much angst over little crappy pieces of ocean filling plastic junk. I hate the small plastic toy craze that seems to be so popular lately, LOLs are another perfect example.

  • Very silly though this promotion holds no appeal to me whatsoever.

  • Ooh wow, this made me smile and laugh at the adult behaviour for what is seemingly a child’s toy. The grown ups probably need to take a good long hard look at themselves and what they are teaching their children!!

  • We won’t have a complete set and that is ok – there really are bigger issues going in the world! I have heard people at the supermarket trying to bend the rules and the staff have been quite consistent in sticking to the rules!

  • Lucky with swaps have a set to be shared between my five old twins. The rules do seem to change at times but no need to get upset about them as it is Coles choice how it is run.

    • Congrats on getting a set for your twins! :)

  • You should check out the facebook marketplace, people are selling them for $5 a pop and some people will pay $20+for the harder to find ones. Pretty rude I think if you got them for free. There is also a clause in the small print saying they are not to be sold for profit. This just goes to show how much adults get carried away with these free promotion things from Coles and Woolworths.

  • I find it totally ridiculous that they run out of the folders weeks ago! Make more to meet customers demands!!!

  • I can’t believe how crazy people are getting over these. Sure it’s fun, but it’s some kid toys which unless they are still toddler, preschool age, are unlikely to play with them often. I have taken some when offered and they have joined my toddlers fake food items from Kmart. But she doesn’t care if she “completes the collection”.

  • I find it terrifying that these ‘adults’ are whinging cause they didn’t get a toy, but someone else did….grow the hell up…. you guys are experiencing FOMO and are teaching your kids that they themselves, can’t miss out on anything …. it’s embarrassing…..

  • The inconsistency sucks. It’s tough for parents having it come down to chance and know of many people spending excessively to try and make their sets

  • This is the problem with promotions like this. Some people go overboard and to the extreme. At the end of the day they’re little bits of plastic that will end up in landfills months from now. I avoid promotions like this unless they’re educational. I feel like the $30 limit for getting a figurine is a bit too steep to justify – $20 would have made much more sense but still, the limit exists for a reason and it is the amount youust spend to get one – no exceptions should be made.

  • Incredible that some people react like that. I think that Coles staff is right not handing out collectibles if the 30-dollars mark hasn’t be reached. And of course they shouldn’t be giving them away for free either.
I’ve got quite some, but I will never end the collection. I wouldn’t know with whom to swap them.

  • I’m shocked about some of the comments I read in this article. It’s just a lovely gesture Coles makes for every $30 spend. We as costumers don’t have a right to that, we should receive it as a gift and be grateful for that.
