A great scavenger hunt activity using supermarket catalogues.

Material

  • A few supermarket catalogues
  • Scissors

Method

  1. Lay out the catalogues in front of your child and then get them to search for pictures that match certain criteria. If they are capable, they can cut them out, or they can be circled with a pencil, or cut out by a parent.

    Some criteria could be:

    1) Searching for items in each colour of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet), cutting and sorting them into colour groups.

    or

    2) Something that: lived in the sea, grew on a tree, something you wear, sometimes food, healthy food, for a baby, that daddy would use, you would use in the shower, you would put in a sandwich. The possibilities are endless!

Notes

Depending on the age of your child, this can be a really great activity to work on their cutting skills (you'll note from the photos that my 4 year old is still learning!). It's also an activity that you can adapt for different ages depending on the criteria you use.

  • This is a great idea especially the colour groups and healthy products my son would enjoy finding them and cutting them out. Not sure if he would last long but worth a try to keep him quiet and busy for an afternoon.
