It's like a magical indoor fairy garden for the little ones and an interesting ecological experiment for the older kids

Material

  • 1 Old fish tank, ability to hold water not essential
  • 1 Bucket of sand
  • 1 Peat moss block
  • 1 Selection of plants

Method

  1. Soak your peat moss block in water as directed and mix a little with you sand in approximately a 50-50 ratio.
  2. Lay a layer of this mix on the bottom of your tank and top with a layer of moss. Plant your selection of plants, epiphytes and ferns do very well in terrariums
  3. Allow adequate ventilation and light, near a window is perfect and spray with water regularly

Notes

You may need a uv light if sunlight is limited, visit a pet shop to find these

  • Pretty much a terrarium. My dad had one with fly catching plants inside. Fun to watch but you need to be dedicated to keep it alive. If it dries out, it’s dead
