This is a useful project for making girl’s dress up accessories. It is easy and quick for beginners (including kids learning to crochet) and produces something useful from yarn oddments. Try making a wide one to use when you want to keep hair out of the way, eg cooking, and enjoy!

Material

  • 1 ball yarn oddment
  • 1 crochet hook (5mm)

Method

  1. To make the headband measure the size of the intended head and then create a single crochet chain of that length. Join with slip stitch to form a loop.
  2. Make the first round by chaining 4 single crochet, then repeat the following: (skip a chain, double crochet into the next chain, chain 1) until the round is complete. Join with a slip stitch.
  3. Make subsequent rounds: ch4, * dc in next loop, ch1, repeat from * join with slip stitch at end of round. Add as many rounds as you want to create a band of the desired width.

Notes

You can decorate the headband with just about anything and create all sorts of personalized statements
