This project can be made as simply as you like – you don't have to die the pasta. You can also make multiple different colours to make a rainbow crown. Great for dress ups.

Material

  • macaroni pieces
  • fishing line
  • food colouring
  • glitter

Method

  1. Die the macaroni by placing drops of food colouring into a sealable bag with the macaroni. Shake until the pasta is evenly covered. Sprinkle loose glitter in and shake again. Allow to dry.
  2. Measure your child's head to determine how long the fishing line should be. Cut accordingly.
  3. Tie a knot in the end of the line and let your child thread the macaroni pasta on.

  • This is a great idea for my niece and nephew to do and I love how creative it is with the way the pasta is put together and they can choose their own colours.

  • I’ll tuck this away for when my daughter is older, she’ll just tear it off at the moment.

  • It’s really a neat job. What a wonderful idea. I used to make different projects with pasta when I was a child. And with pegs too. Simple and nice!!

  • I am wondering how you actually get the pasta to stay one up and one down.
but hey your photo looks awesome and pasta threading really is great fun.
    thanks heaps.

    • I think they have used pasta known as Elbows as they are that shape.
I would still try natural food colouring, maybe just leave it in for longer. That way if they put in their mouths (like some kids do) they are not absorbing toxins. For that reason and others I would not use glitter. It sometimes falls off when it dries. You do not want the kids to get it in their eyes. It can make a mess of their hair too. Not sure I like fishing line though. Thinking of trying something else.
