Hello!

A patty cake is pretty much another word for a cupcake. Patty cake wrappers are those cupcake papers that you can buy from the baking section of the shops. This patty cake garden is a gorgeous simple craft that will keep the kids busy for hours.

We have always got patty cake (cupcake) wrappers in our kitchen. The kids love the paper ones in different colours and patterns. You can buy a whole variety of patty cake wrappers from the shops – there are silver and gold foil ones or polka-dotty paper ones.

There are so many things you can do with patty cake wrappers. You can obviously use them to make cupcakes – which always goes down a treat in our home.

But I always keep a collection of patty cake wrappers in our craft cupboard so we can easily haul them out for some fun creation. You really don’t need much at all for this patty cake garden and it won’t require that much help from an adult. It’s a perfect rainy day or school holiday craft activity.

What’s In Our Patty Cake Garden

My kids love making fields of flowers in their patty cake garden. They then make butterflies and bees using coloured paper and place them all over the garden.

They also use yellow patty cake wrappers to make a shining sun or golden sunflowers.

They love taking out their coloured textas and adding ladybugs, grass, trees and the sky to their garden.

They’ll sometimes take their small dolls into their patty garden and pretend they’re having a picnic.

Sometimes when my kids are in a more destructive mood, they’ll make their patty cake flowers and then grab their toy dinosaurs and pretend they’re stomping all over the flowers. So much fun!

We’d love to hear about what your kids love adding to their patty cake garden. Tell us in the comments below.

  • In my olden days, that’s what my children did and made – thanks for reminding me – guess what will be happening when next my grandchildren visit – turn off the device and make something using these. I will love to see what happens.
