A baby has been rescued unharmed from a home in Kingston, after reportedly being held hostage by a man with a knife.
7 News report that police smashed in the front window to access the home, during a major police operation.
Police say the man was possibly armed and refusing to come out or allow the three week old baby to leave the residence.
A police spokesman said officers were called to the Barossa St address, following reports of a disturbance between a man and woman about 5am Thursday.
So far the man has been barricaded inside the home for a few hours.

Police have declared an emergent situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act which covers Barossa St, between Velorum Dr and Barracuda Ct.
Police believed the man was aged in his 40s and was known to the woman.
The child was not related to the man.
UPDATE 10am
‘The baby was unharmed and was taken to hospital for observation,’ Acting Inspector Stewart Day from Logan Police District said.
‘The male person was taken into custody by arrest and has also been taken to hospital’.
Acting Inspector Day said the man was ‘known to police’, and the child was in care.
He could not confirm whether there was anyone else at the home during the incident, but said a number of other children are also in care at the residence.
The man was known to the woman who lived at the home, but did not live there himself.
UPDATE 12pm
Police believe an argument between the man and a woman who lives at the property – but also isn’t related to the baby – sparked the stand-off.
Child protection detectives and the child safety department will investigate what led to Thursday’s hostage situation.
“Actions taken by police were swift, exemplary and certainly alleviated a situation that could have been very, very nasty,” Act Insp Day told reporters at the scene.
“Their actions resulted in a three-week-old child taken out of a dangerous and frightening situation.”
