For busy mums finding the time to look their best can often prove impossible.

Recent research from Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse backs that up revealing 66 per cent of mums spend less than 15 minutes ‘getting their face on’ each day.

In my 20’s spending an hour each morning on hair and make-up was just a part of life. Throw in three kids- a set of twins included-and a business ten years later and I’m lucky to leave the house in anything ironed.

While beauty salon visits may be a day dream now (or if I’m lucky a Mother’s Day present), I have found DIY beauty treatments to be the next best thing for time a time constrained mum like me.

So if you’re a busy mum mourning your appearance BC (before children) here are some beauty tips to help you look your best on the go:

Dry Shampoo

After a long day in the office, followed by an eventful evening of feeding and bathing children, washing your hair may be the last thing on your mind. If you don’t have time to wash, dry and style your locks try using a dry shampoo like Batiste Dry Shampoo 200ml $7.99 to get an extra day of oil free hair.

Anti-aging skin treatments

Growing a successful business can be extremely stressful, especially when you’re raising young children. Stress is one of the primary causes of aging so combat dull skin and fine lines with good skin care and antiaging serums, like Skin Doctors Beetox 50ml $59.99 or Dr Lewinns Eternal Youth Day & Night Cream 50g $59.99.

You can get these type of products more affordably from places like Good Price Pharmacy, which is a good thing as apparently women my age (mid 30s) seek lots of value, spending on average less than $250 a year on beauty products.

Waxing

For those of you who wear jeans and leggings during summer, you’re not fooling anyone! Hiding a month’s worth of un-waxed skin under long pants might work in winter but now the warmer months are here it’s time to face the music. DIY waxing kits are a great, easy alternative to the beauty salon. Many waxing products do not require heat or strips so purchase a product like Nair roll on wax for safe, mess free hair removal.

Easy to wear makeup

I hate to say it but I am one of the 38 percent of women aged 30-39 that Good Price Pharmacy says puts their make up on in the car so I need quick multi use products.

BB creams and all in one powder and foundation like Revlon Photoready BB Cream $22.99 are my version of foundation these days and I also know I am helping prevent further aging as most of them have sun protection in it as well.

Add some mascara, a lick of stay on lipstick and for special occasions (or meetings) some eyeliner and I’m done. All very affordable so it’s easy to stay up to date with the latest fashion colours.

As a woman, I naturally want to look as good as I can (in 15 minutes) and taking a little bit of time each week to pamper yourself can make all the difference and doesn’t require hours at a salon or your life savings. You can get them all while you pick up a prescription, get baby milk and nappies!

  • I don’t work and I’m no longer a full time mum, so I didn’t need to read this, but I enjoyed it anyway. Very helpful

  • Yep, this totally sounds like my life! hehe! But I agree with the all-in-one foundation, mascara and a good lip gloss. Also, I have recently discovered blush- a little brush add colour to your checks and helps you look young and fresh

  • A bit of beauty DIY is a real pick me up but I have found since becoming pregnant I’m not so worried about the face and hair – my priorities have changed and I realise people prob don’t care that much how thick my eyelashes are or if I have a few freckles or blemishes.
