Hello!

Black Friday is one of the most popular shopping days in the US and it seems that each year, it’s gaining more momentum in Australia. We’ll never say no to saving money, especially in the run-up to Christmas so here is our big list of the best Black Friday Australia sales and deals.

Black Friday is traditionally the day following the Thanksgiving public holiday. It has become known as the unofficial start to the festive retail frenzy and the biggest single shopping day of the year. This year it falls on Friday 29 November 2019.

What is Black Friday?

For many shops, the day causes a profit boom and often pushes revenues into the black, hence the name. Although the first known mention of Black Friday was in November 1951, when the journal Factory Management and Maintenance used it to describe people calling in sick the day after Thanksgiving so they could have an extra day off work. At the same time, American police were using the phrases “Black Friday” and “Black Saturday” to describe the terrible traffic that crowded the streets at the beginning of the pre-Christmas shopping season.

Cyber Monday, which is the Monday after Black Friday, is also becoming popular for online shopping super sales and we are seeing more discount deals popping up locally. This year, Cyber Monday is on Monday 2 December 2019.

We are always up for a bargain so of course, we’ll be happy to embrace these big shopping days and kick start our Christmas spending.

Most of the bigger retailers have released their Black Friday deals. Some of these sales are fantastic and it’s definitely worthwhile getting your Christmas shopping done even before December hits, to take advantage of these rock-bottom prices.

Big W

The discount retailer is putting up quite a show for Black Friday, with many deals up to 50% off popular products. Big W’s sale kicks off on Friday 29 November and continues through the weekend until Monday 2 December.

Amazon is celebrating Black Friday from Friday 29 November until Monday 2 December, which will then be followed by a 24-hour Cyber Monday sale.

The online store promises a heap of great deals, including Amazon devices like the Kindle and Echo, clothing, electronics, gaming, toys, household, kitchen and home furnishings, garden, video and books, pets, sports and outdoors, beauty, health and personal care and baby products.

Last year the Echo Dot was on sale for only AU$39 instead of its usual AU$79. And you could pick up an Amazon Echo Plus, which usually retails for AU$229, for just AU$99. So we expect similar kinds of deals this year.

Top Tips For Black Friday

Findr has offered some top tips on how to make the most out of Black Friday sales. Check them out below:

Keep an eye out. Many retailers publish their deals before Black Friday, meaning you have time to consider your options and really find the best bargain.

Compile a wish list. The Black Friday madness includes deals on anything and everything. Get organised and create a wish list of items you really want, that way you can track and see which stores are offering discounts on them. It also helps to stop you from over-spending during a sale.

Shop around. You might find a better deal elsewhere. For example, Apple is notorious for offering mediocre Black Friday deals. Check out stockists like eBay and Amazon for a bigger and better discount.

Make sure the retailer ships to Australia. If you’re choosing to buy from overseas, you can still access the retailer’s Black Friday deals. We recommend using Australia Post’s ShopMate service, which provides you with a US postal address to get items shipped to, before delivering them to Australia.

Don’t forget that electronics might not work. It’s easy to get caught up in the bargains. Some of the best deals in the US revolve around new TVs, but even if you buy one at a massive discount, you’ll probably need an adapter and a transformer. Also factor in the higher shipping cost.

  • Some places just extended their specials from the previous week or in some cases fortnight. I fortunately hadn’t bought the Lego early so I saved 20% on it. I didn’t buy the big sets though.

  • Too many shops doing this I find it overwhelming.

  • To be honest I feel like this will get people into debt, this time of the year is very costly already. If you had planned ahead and set aside money then probably really great but compulsive buying leads to debt

  • Yes I went out to do some Black Friday shopping but to be honest some of the shops did not have anything left that was advertised

  • Found it overwhelming to be honest, emails and sms so many in one day I switched I didn’t buy a thing. They were all sales they have at other times anyway. Like how many times does bonds have 40% off everything? Like all the time. The real sale is buying something that you need not something u don’t need that’s on special

  • There are so many international companies trading in Australia now, so I can see why the Black Friday sales are generating momentum. I love a good sale and have bought quite a few things on the Black Friday sales (actually bought most of it online on Thursday as many companies went early). It’s great because some of the companies have offered up to 40% off storewide. Some companies have deals going from Thursday to Monday. Definitely worth checking out!

  • Not for me I would rather get the items at regular sales as most times you do better anyway

  • i thought it was only an online sale – I know it originates from America not sure why Australia has taken it on themselves to copy and ride the coat tails off -

  • Too many of them. I’m being inundated with unwanted emails.

  • I didn’t know why it was called black Friday. I’m not planning on participating its a bit of a gimmick
There are better specials during the year on the goods I’m interested in

  • Always good to have some serious discounts!

  • Definitely going to be doing some last minute Christmas shopping on Friday for the sales…just hope it’s here in time for Christmas
