Hello!

The Big W Toy Mania Sale is (in)famous for its midnight shopping frenzy and fist-fights for the cut-priced toys. But this year, amid COVID-19 restrictions, the retailer’s biggest toy sale of the year is going to be different.

Last year, we shared the craziness that went on at the start of the Big W Toy Mania sale as eager parents lined up for hours to get their trolleys first in line when midnight struck. It was complete bedlam as hoards of desperate parents crowded into the stores on the lookout for a deal.

The Biggest Change

As expected, the major change of this year’s Big W Toy Mania Sale is that the iconic midnight bunfight has been scrapped. That’s right, this year there will be none of those adrenaline-pumping trolley wars. Of course, it’s not such a surprise – you can’t exactly expect much social distancing when everyone is shoulder to shoulder waiting for the race to begin.

But rest assured, the Big W Toy Mania Sale will still be back in June 2020, even if it will be different from previous sales.

It’s Longer This Year

Another big change is that the toy sale will be extended by an extra week. So instead of three weeks, the toy sale this year will run for four weeks.

“We won’t have our usual midnight store openings to launch Toy Mania but we’ll be extending the sale by an extra week so there will be more time to shop all the hottest and latest toys, along with all the classics or favourites,” Big W said.

The dates for the Big W Toy Mania Sale haven’t yet been revealed but it usually starts on a Thursday in mid-June so we’re predicting it’ll launch around the 19 June and continue for four weeks.

Love Lay-by

Early shopping for Christmas is one of the big reasons why we love Big W Toy Mania Sale and the good news is that this year you can lay-by for Christmas in store, plus you can lay-by online as well.

In Store Issues

Big W stores still remain open so you can still pick up the bargains in store. But be prepared to line up. Big W said that if you plan to shop in store, “we’ll be continuing to practice social distancing within all our stores. This includes adhering to customer limits in store, and managing a ‘one in, and one out’ system at the store entrance.”

The main focus this year will be online with contactless Pick up in-store or contactless Home delivery. As per previous years, there will also be an online-only sale this year.

Online Only

Big W also mentioned that “for our real Toy Maniacs, there will be an online only preview just a few days ahead of when the sale will launch in store – so stay tuned!”

Last year, Big W fans were disappointed in the deals released for the Toy Mania sale. They moaned that the prices were just not low enough. ‘Not much of a discount better of at Kmart more value for $$$.’

The Big W Toy Mania Sale catalogue should be released in the next few weeks so watch this space.
