Wow, who needs Netflix, when you can just watch the drama unfold on social media. A tornado has hit facebook after the admin of the Big W Families Facebook Group posted a sexy swimsuit photo and the members went wild.

Big W Families Australia Facebook Group is the home to over 60,000 fans of the popular department store. It’s a place where passionate Big W shoppers swap bargains and ask questions. The page has been plagued with controversy before but this time it’s out of control.

Kristy VL, the group’s admin, posted a pic of herself, wearing a black gingham swimsuit accompanied by killer high heels and posing seductively against the wall. She captioned the controversial image:

“This swim suit was only $25 from Penrith BigW. Add a black skirt with heels and i feel like a million dollars.”

Vicious!

The reaction this post received was instant and vicious, with mums virtually clawing each others eyes out and spewing volcanoes of insults. Many mums were absolutely disgusted that such a raunchy photo would be posted in a ‘family’ group, while others defended the post, saying that there was hardly any skin exposed at all and that the whiners were all just jealous.

“If I wanted to look at porn I would load a porn page this is friggen pathetic attention seeking crap. This is meant to be big W page not a perv page. I might have to start inviting all my make single friends to this page they might get off more on here,” said one furious follower.

“The issue is that this was “sold” as a BIGW family page, then bait and switch it’s all of a sudden something different,” said another disgruntled fan.

“She Looks HOT!”

While others joined the opposite team, supporting the poster:

“She’s in swimmers what’s the problem. Far out some ppl need to get a life. Just because some of u couldn’t pull it off doesn’t mean u can shame the one that can. Move on ppl!”

“I honestly don’t see a problem with the pic that was posted I can’t believe that it’s still going on lol! No different then pin up chicks in 50’s if ya ask me lol each to their own I guess,” said another.

Controversial Cover Photo

However, Kristy added fuel to the fire by making ‘the’ photo the cover photo for the group. Cue explosion. The cover photo has received over 1.4K comments and climbing.

“Why the f*ck did you make that photo the cover? The photo with the skirt is cute asf and can still be considered to have some class. The other photo makes you look like a trashy meth head. You can all go on about body confidence as much as you like, the cover photo screams lack of self esteem.” one commenter said.

Name Change

She then changed the name of the group to Big W Clientele Australia, removing the reference to families. This move unsurprisingly caused another outbreak of complaints.

The group has now been compared to the ultra-controversial, secret girls-only group BGA (Bad Girl’s Advice), which has been shut down numerous times.

Stripper Page

Another follower commented that the “wallpaper makes it look like a strippers page, and now it’s a clientele page…..”

“Is this now a page for the strippers to show us what Big W clothes they wear whilst on the job, or is that her stripper name ????
And are we all stripper clients now too?” she continued.

Exit

All the vitriol has caused a mass exit from the group, with many disgusted members announcing their departure.

“I really use to like this page as it was family related. I’m out, ” said one.

Others left because of all the ensuing cattiness:

I’m leaving this group now, NOT because of that photo but because of all the bitchiness that followed. Life is hard enough at times, I don’t want to make space for drama and judgment. If you can’t scroll on you shouldn’t be in community groups.”

“Admin needs to pull her head out and DELETE ALL THESE POSTS so the page is back to what it’s intended for. But no she loves the drama and it’s sad because she’s turned the page to sh*t by allowing people to carry on.”

What Now?

One supportive group member had this advice for Kristy:

“Kristy, Girl – I know you’re trying to make a point and perhaps looking to get “The trash” to take itself out… But don’t damage the page reputation, you didn’t get 63k follows from not at least putting in a bit of hard work…

I know there have been rude, nasty, foul, unkind and disrespectful comments made about yourself – but don’t give into there shit…

I’ve seen nothing wrong with your initial post, nor you changing the page pic or even the name change… But, the page will only go down hill from here if it keeps up… I suggest putting the name back and making the page pic a bingo or bluey stuffed toy to keep all the bitches happy and then move on from the nonsense…

As for Everyone else, those still being nasty, those making new pages and posting the link etc… Honestly, grow up!!! I strongly suggest too, that you never take your family to the beach because DAMN if you bothered by a woman in a one piece with a pencil skirt, then I’ve got news for you!!!!”

Controversy In The Past

This group is no stranger to bitchiness, as one follower explains:

“About 12 months ago there was a whole hoopla on this page because the one admin never monitored posts. She said screw you all and left the group, when that happened the page was literally there for grabs with no admin, the first person that clicked on admin could make themselves admin. Then there was some sort of power struggle where people were all jumping on as admin and booting other admin. It says she’s creator because the creator has left the group.”

Glancing at Kristy’s personal facebook profile, she doesn’t really fit the conventional mould for a Big W family group admin. Her snapchat id is F*ck_yeh2019 and her page is overflowing with MA-rated memes and sultry photos of herself. Her relationship status is single and there is no evidence of her being a mum.

Kristy Hits Back

But all this carrying-on doesn’t seem to have deterred the fearless leader of the group. Kristy released a statement in the group saying:
“Thankyou to everyone who has defended me while my back was turned I really appreciate you all. To those trying to hurt me with your horrible comments you will have to do better then that. I didn’t come all this way to have some bored house wife Light me on fire and watch me burn. Any way on another note I have a two piece swimsuit from BigW and today feels like a photo shoot kinda day.”

Perhaps Kristy does enjoy the limelight and the controversy (and there is no denying she looked fabulous in the swimsuit) but it sounds like the Big W Families page is just not the right fit for this kind of melodrama.

  • The comments and the vision are just further reasons why I won’t be on social media.
Who needs this extra trauma going on in your life when you have to deal with the real trauma of living/dying every day?

    Reply

  • If I saw the photo at any other time I would not have thought anything of it. I can see people not liking the way she is posing since it is on a family site but she’s not showing anything inappropriate. Maybe it’s blown up out of proportion because of the way young ones are being sexualized these days. My cure for this is just don’t go on the page. Simple

    Reply

  • Look, I’m not offended but it is a family page and she didn’t need to pose like a stripper.

  • I think it’s all a little bit funny – the reaction and overreaction means some people clearly have too much time on their hands. I follow a KMart group and didn’t realise there was a Big W one so I’ve just signed up. And as for being a family page, I don’t imagine anyone’s kids were actually following the page.

  • Really nasty reactions from a lot of key board warriors. There are ways of getting your message across without this bitchiness.

    Reply

  • I think she just needed some attention

    Reply

  • I’m not a fan of either photo but I’d never be so rude and attack the person for expressing themselves.. move on if you don’t like what you see..

  • I don’t think the issue here is the swim suit… I’m seeing a nastier, meaner motive from this Kristy lady. No one just posts things like this for no reason ALSO on top of that, how is she the admin of a family group.. if she (allegedly) doesn’t have children of her own? She’s not relateable and the move is a ridiculous self centered one. I’m not getting good vibes from this woman. I’m seeing something more than a swim suite pic. Everyone who is trying to act liberal and modern and trying to show support for this filth, is not thinking multi-dimensionally. There’s more layers to what she’s doing. She doesn’t seem nice.

  • Lady is smokin’ in that swimsuit, but probably a poor choice of forum for sharing her hotness publicly. Especially as an admin, there is an expectation of neutrality and even professionalism by those who moderate our online spaces. I think the backlash is harsh and unfair, but I understand how and why it came about so easily and quickly.

  • I think there’s a time and place for everything, these sorta photos kinda seem like she’s after a big break as a pin up model or something. Not really something for A family friendly page

  • i am a part of that group… bread through ALL the comments ..lol!

    Reply

  • I used to be a part of that group until Kristy VL sent my best friend messages telling her to kill herself and to do it on a live in the group page so everyone could watch it. Trash will always be trash.

  • I thought the second photo was great!

    Reply

  • If you don’t like it, leave it! (But, in my honest opinion, I don’t think it is a particularly flattering photo …. )
