The Big W Toy Mania sale has finally arrived. After weeks of anticipation, bargain-hungry shoppers were at the ready to buy up a storm and stock the cupboards for Christmas and birthdays.

Shoppers took to social media in the run-up to the sale to express their disappointment in what was on offer. In an earlier story, shoppers made comments such as:

‘Yup, it’s terrible this year.’

Others also said, ‘I agree I’m not happy but not only price but choice.’

Hoards On The Lookout For A Bargain

However, despite the grumblings, the Big W stores were heaving with desperate parents on the lookout for a deal.

One woman shared a video on social media of crowds of people ready to be let into the store at midnight on Thursday.

“Toy sale madness at Narellan,” was the caption of the video posted in Big W Families Australia facebook group.

Many commenters responded to the mayhem, expressing their disbelief that so many would go shopping so late at night.

This is a “total sh*t show”, on said. They’re “lunatics”, said another.

Packed Trolleys

Shoppers took to social media to share photos of the loot they had picked up for discounted prices.

One mum was very proud of her shopping prowess:

“In and out in one hour, 28 mins shopping, 20 mins in line and 10 mins at counter,” she said.

And those who remember Polly Pockets will be over the moon to discover that Big W is selling the 30 year edition Polly Pocket Partytime Surprise Keepsake Compact for $29.

  • Ive never taken part in things like this as for me its all just too stressful. Im more a casual shopper.

  • Honestly, this sale was a bit of a joke. I think the only real benefit of this sale is that you can lay by it for 6 months if you so wish. The idea of buying a gift 6 months in advance is not great – kids tastes change so rapidly. Oh and, if you are a smart shopper, you will find many of the items cheaper elsewhere!

  • Thankfully, I’m passed the toy stage so no longer have to fight with the masses. I do recall the days though… when KMart, Big W and Target all had their sales and they were usually big ones. Now, not so much.

  • I went to the toy sale twice. Knew what I was looking for. There was only 3 of one of the items I was after. I bought two for grandchildren. Two of the lego items weren’t in stock and only available online. I know from past experience my daughter had with online toy sales that some things weren’t delivered in time for Christmas or were simply cancelled without explanation, so I’m wary about ordering items online.

  • I have looked at the website and their catalogue but I couldn’t find anything cheap or like sales item. All the toys on sale are still very expensive to buy without any occasion or reason. I might buy any if the sale would come again at Christmas time or anyone’s birthday but not just because its a sale.

  • A good sale and some good bargains.

  • I never find these sales to be cheap – just a cheap gimmick to get you into their store.

  • Unless there’s some new toy that’s extremely cheap and rare, I don’t bother with these sales.

    • I research before buying to get specials.

  • 1 hour 20 in the layby line and very chaotic and stressful especially with a 2 year old in the trolley! Big W should use the opportunity next year to utilise this time with a captive audience (shoppers) to use their super brand powers to engage entertain and entice their customers! I’m thinking coffee cart and children’s entertainment perhaps beauty samples demos you name it they should show it and it would be so much better than listening to people argue and try settle and resettle bored children and grumpy shoppers ! Just a suggestion Big W

  • Really? It’s just $10 and $15 off. I think shopping around like at Kmart and other discounted stores, second hand from private sales yields much better prices and you don’t have to battle with other crazy shoppers.

  • No I didn’t go for a hunt, we have enough stuff and mess lol ;)

  • You could shop online before in store started. I had a look at the Lego and prices are not as discounted as previous toy sales.
