Hello!

What a debacle! Bluey partnered up with Peter Alexander for the launch of family matchy-matchy pyjamas and the whole sale dive-bombed into a mushy pile of stinky doggy doo doo.

It all started when the Bluey facebook page gave fans a hint of its new range of matching family PJ’s, to be sold exclusively online on the Peter Alexander website.

The post, which featured pics of the adorable sleepwear for mum, dad and the kids, went nuts with over 25,000 excited comments.

On your marks…get set…

It was pretty clear on the post that the sale would only go live from 4pm on 5 May so fans all over the land were setting their alarms and getting ready to buy. It also warned that “this is a limited collection so be sure to get in quick.”

Eek…It’s Early

But then disaster struck. The big Bluey Peter Alexander sale went live prematurely – around 30 minutes early than the advertised time. A few beagle-eyed fans were keeping a close look at the sale page so they managed to snag the in-demand sleep gear.

But the majority fans went barking mad when they realised that they had been duped and within minutes, the entire range had sold out.

What A Mess Up!

Someone really mucked up! How could the powers behind the collab not realise that there needed to be HEAPS of stock to cater for the demand? There were millions of dollarbucks to be made here but with only VERY limited items in stock, this turned out to be a damp squib. And left many Bluey fans growling with disappointment.

The other scenario is that there was some automated robot that sucked up all the stock for re-sale on eBay at triple the price. But you’d think the Peter Alexander website would be sophisticated enough to have controls against this kind of abuse.

And The Cost! WOW!

Another major bugbear was the price of the Peter Alexander / Bluey partnership. For my family of five, it would have cost just short of $400 to buy Bluey-themed PJs for all of us. Now, that is just ridiculous. And fans were fuming!

In March, Bluey partnered up with Target, Big W and Kmart to launch a more affordable range of Bluey clothes. However, these were only for kids and parents were crying out for Bluey clothes in grown-up sizes.

We all thought Peter Alexander was the answer to our Bluey adult apparel prayers but it turned out to be a curse instead. There was just no hope at all.

Technical Gremlins

To top it off, there was a multitude of technical issues on the Peter Alexander website, with many shoppers reporting payment problems.

Not Happy!

Rabid fans descended on the Bluey facebook page belting out their frustrations with the dismal sale experience.

There were heaps of comments complaining about the early opening of the sale:

“Sold out already. Not happy!”

“I think it’s a bit rough that they put the stock up half hour before they said they were releasing them.”

“Not happy!!! You guys said 4pm! Website is already active and things are all sold out!”

“Bit annoyed that it was meant to be 4pm, but they were up early and are now just about gone, and it’s not even 4pm.”

“The post said 4pm but others are saying it went on sale at 3pm….. I’m actually really disappointed. I get that it’s so popular, it’s so hard when they advertise for a time and everything is sold out. If you advertise something for a certain time, then it should start at that time. Just saying…..”

Bluey Bites Back

The Bluey team tried to stem the backlash and responded with a standard statement:

“We’re sorry you missed out on purchasing the item you were interested in. Sometimes retailers launch their collections a little early in order to test the website before the live time. Unfortunately stock is limited so some sizes may have sold out quite quickly. We’re working super hard to bring you more Bluey clothes soon. Thanks for all the Bluey love and support.”

They signed their comment off with their signature blue heart. Sadly, there was not much love floating around for the Bluey brand today.

Too Expensive

The fans also bemoaned the exorbitant price of the pyjamas:

“Omg how expensive. Nearly $300 to get 3 pairs of pjs. I think I’ll pass!”

“Wow these are stupidly expensive. Really doesn’t fit with the ‘everyday family’ theme of the show.”

“For my lot I’m at around $330 all up for bloody pyjamas!”

“That (price) is not realistic for our family. Even with after pay. Please team up with a more affordable brand.”

“Quite disappointing that this partnership wasn’t made with a more affordable company for families. Over 320 dollars for pjs for 2 kids and 2 adults is ridiculous.”

“Bought some for me & my bigger kids but I had to decide wether to sell a body part or my husband. Please can you team up with a more family budget friendly store next time with adult & size 7 & up for kids.”

What Bluey Had To Say

The Bluey response to the high price was:

“Thank you for your feedback. A lot of love has gone into this limited collection with Peter Alexander but we are working super hard to bring you more clothing options soon. Keep your eyes peeled!”

When one fan asked if the clothing line would be restocked, The Bluey team replied:

“We’re sorry to hear that you were unable to purchase the Bluey item you were interested in. A lot of magic went into designing and creating this collection and we’re sorry you missed out. Unfortunately, there are no plans to restock this limited edition range.”

It Was All A Bit Dodgy

It looks like Peter Alexander was certainly not the right partner to hope into bed with. One fan commented that things were looking a bit dodgy over on the Peter Alexander facebook page:

“but what the hell is going on over at Peter Alexander? They haven’t been active on their socials since the 27th March, their last post is absolutely flooded with complaints in the comments and then today they completely fumbled this collection in releasing it online early… there’s not even any posts from them advertising this collection despite it being a hugely popular draw card… ”

And Then It Was Gone

Last night, the Peter Alexander website had a message for its disappointed shoppers:

bluey-peter-alexander

And then this morning the collection had quickly disappeared from the website. And whoosh….they were gone.

This is such a poor reflection on both brands. Surely they would have predicted the demand on these pyjamas and to leave so many shoppers in the lurch is just disgraceful. It certainly has tarnished the squeaky-clean Bluey reputation.

I’m sure the Bluey team will think twice before hopping into bed with a clothing partner. I bet they wish they never launched the PJ line at all.

  • Woah the price puts me off but they are cute.

  • This doesn’t look right for me so I wouldn’t have bought in the first place

    Reply

  • Not for me as they are way too expensive for one winters wear

    Reply

  • No way for that price!

    Reply

  • I certainly would have been disappointed at those prices. I’ll wait for something from the other family friendly retailers

    Reply

  • Not something I would have bought but it’s so frustrating when things are advertised then when you go to buy, they are all gone. Not a good advertisement for Peter Alexander or for Bluey that’s for sure

  • I was online at 4:10pm and there was only one thing I couldn’t get so we were fine. They also arrived in the mail 2 days later which I was very impressed about.
Peter Alexander PJs have always been a bit on the pricier side, so it’s a personal choice to pay that bit extra.

  • Not something I am interested it but it would be frustrating. I bet it had something to do with the daylight saving hours or something why it went live. I am always one to go online earlier and have the website up ready anyways for things like that as I have known this to happen.

  • well if people are willing to pay that for pj’s then really they should have made more to meet the demand, now these are showing up on ebay for double, triple the prices and you know someone is bound to pay it!

I think the more disgraceful thing here is not so much the high price for the PA pj’s but the fact that there are people who think it’s ok to use bots to purchase bulk quantities then off load on ebay for extreme prices citing rare or limited etc to push the sale, it’s these people that should be located and fined or something

    Reply

  • hmmm… I don’t think something worn to bed is really worth all the fuss and expense!

    Reply

  • And now they are popping up on ebay at twice the price!

    • Surely no one would purchase them at inflated prices? Surely there is common sense!

    Reply

  • I get that people are disappointed, but looking at the bigger picture this is not a major deal!

    Reply

  • Ooh, this is a pretty major stuff up in many ways. Why not do a pre-order with pricing to gauge interest and then everyone knows what they’re up for – Peter Alexander and customers. Such a shame. I’m not into Bluey, but I know so many who are and they’ve all been left disappointed.

    Reply

  • No.I am not spending my money on expensive brands. But nice to give them as a gift for someone you love.

    Reply

  • Did not get any and not concerned. In the scheme of things it is night wear! There are so many other things to care about and be outraged over in this world and missing out on nightwear does not rate!
