Hello!

The COVID-19 has taken away our freedom. But the one thing it isn’t taking away, is our wrinkles. In case you haven’t got the memo yet, all beauty therapies are cancelled and Botox has been banned.

We already know that nail salons, massage parlours, facials and waxing places have been closed to slow the spread of Coronavirus. And this includes anti-wrinkle injections.

So just in case you thought you could convince your local beautician to do a sneaky home-visit Botox treatment, well, the bad news is that it is officially not allowed.

Botox Is Banned

The Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia issued a statement that all anti-wrinkle injections (Botox, Dysport and Xeomin as Botulinum Toxin A) and dermal fillers are banned for cosmetic purposes.

The statement released by the Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia reads:

“While these procedures are categorised as being only to be performed by authorised health practitioners, patient safety is the College’s primary consideration in an effort to reduce the spread of this disease.”

Health Hazard

“Such conduct represents a significant health hazard in any circumstance. The CPCA has consistently shown grave concern preceding this pandemic over the administration of medical substances on these types of non-medical premises. This is now particularly accentuated during the course of this highly contagious pandemic.”

“The College warns that it is highly concerned that during this time, some members of the public may be enticed by non-medical practitioners to undergo cosmetic injectables, including anti-wrinkle injections (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) and dermal fillers, especially by young vulnerable patients, to undergo these procedures by ‘back yarders’ in unsafe circumstances.”

While registered health practioners are exempt from this ban, the statement added that “therapeutic uses of scheduled, prescription-only medications should only be performed following the instructions by the Chief Medical Officer and Prime Minister’s announcements.”

No More Botox

Any kind of medical procedures, involving the administration of prescription-only, scheduled medications within premises that are not classified as medical facilities, such as hairdressers, medi-spas and beauticians, or where there is no medical practitioner on-site, is banned.

So after this whole thing is over, we’re all going to be a bunch of hairy, wrinkled, fat people. Oh well, at least we’ll have our health.

  • No thanks. I’m scared of these kinds of medical procedures. I see how quickly people get addicted and start looking like a puffer fish.

  • I miss my massages – I need them to maintain mobility – but otherwise it’s not been a big issue to give these things up.

  • Never used Botox and doubt I ever will, so this closure isn’t worrying me one bit.

  • I would really love a massage – which I get regularly but not for beauty purposes, however I understand the need for social distancing and don’t want myself or the therapist at risk

  • I’ve never tried botox. I was so close to purchasing a deal for laser though. I was going to try one session. If I liked it I was going to pay for the bundle. Glad I didnt as the sessions would be either suspended until an unknown time or lost completely.

  • No thanks to Botox! Yuck.

I don’t go to beauty therapists unless I’ve been given a voucher. I do love it but it’s not something I do regularly

  • this is one thing that I am grateful for, I have never used botox and I am really interested to see those that do what their faces will look like at the end of covid19 – hopefully they will use this time to learn how to love themselves as they are and to see their beauty for what it is without botox!

  • The only beauty therapy I get done is haircut and on the odd occasion I’ll get a manicure or a pedicure about once a year. I’ve never had botox and never would. Just waiting for this to be over so I can see my specialist for back surgery.
