A six-year-old has been ‘banned from lessons’ because his 4cm long mohawk ‘could poke another child in the eye’.

Mum, Kirstie-Lea Day, 26, claims she was contacted by the school and told her son’s hairstyle was unacceptable and he would not be allowed in class until he changed it, reports Daily Mail.

The mother-of-three claims when she brought Charlie back to school this week, she was told she should shave his head or take him home.

Ms Day, who is now threatening to move Charlie to a different school, said: ‘It is not fair for Charlie to be the only one to have to shae his head.

‘It’s just a small, neat mohawk – it doesn’t affect his learning, or the other students. The school said it was not suitable and would distract the other children and him.

‘I was even told he needed to shave his head for safety reasons, as it could poke someone in the eye.

‘I kept Charlie off school for the next three days and when I got a call from the school asking the reason why, I told them ‘because he isn’t allowed due to his hair’.

‘They said that was not the case and said he was allowed as long as he had his hair flattened. It’s not fair, he loves his haircut and the whole situation has affected him.’

Charlie went back to school yesterday with no product in his hair, but Ms Day claims his teacher ‘flattened it with water’.

The school’s states it ‘does not permit children to have ‘extreme’ haircuts that could serve as a distraction to other children’.

Ms Day, a stay at home single mother, added: ‘The school says all kids should look the same, but only Charlie has to change his hair.

‘He’s been naughty these days because of that, yesterday he even came home saying he doesn’t want to go back to school because he doesn’t like his hair flattened.

‘I am now thinking I might have to move him to another school because he isn’t happy there because of it.’

  • Oh good lord. I hope all kids and teachers with long hari are removed from the school also incase other children get tangled in their hair and are strangled. Such a risk. Might be better to order that all teachers and children are bald just to make sure there are no mishaps.

  • Kids need to be able to express themselves,

  • PC again – about time people grew up – a pen poked at a child will definitely do more damage.

  • I’ve never heard a more absurd thing! It’s hair not horns for goodness sake!!!

  • How ridiculous! In what universe could hair, which is soft, poke someone in the eye? Also, I don’t know about at this school but mine tended to employ a 1 meter rule between at least the boys and the girls so I don’t know how someone would be getting that close anyway.

  • A pen is more dangerous than the haircut. Things are getting so over the top these days

  • So what’s more important here – the child’s hair or his education? This needs to be handled like adults with concern for the child’s learning.

  • If hairstyles are enough to distract children in class, just how boring and uninteresting must those classes be?

  • Some schools have strict dress codes. I know there is rules at the schools our kids go to. Girls hair once is reaches shoulder length has to be tied back out of their face. Boys are only allowed to have their hair a certain length. They must wear their regulation uniforms unless advised otherwise.

  • A school should have the right to decide if mohawks are allowed or not. If they don’t like it then change schools. Who knows how he behaves, a mohawk could be dangerous if he’s a little brat and aims for other kids eyes. We don’t know the whole story.

  • I have never heard anything so rediculous in my life. This is crazy, the hair is not a danger unless he is pretending to be a t-Rez and running at others with his head extended. Then it still isn’t the hair but the head itself, going to start banning kids from handing heads and limbs? Think not! If the school is too posh for this do then put it in the COc and dress code.

  • This is soooo rediculus to be true! We vlive in what I feel is overprotective society. The haircut does not look dangerous and he likes his look or did if people in this case School going too far and keeping him from going to school. Let us deal with issues that are more important than this silly one

  • That’s just stupid, what about the girls with pony tails that could slap someone in the face?

  • This is crazy, all kids should look the same ??!! Just like the story of the school who would like to bring back the spanking, I would like to ask this school which era they’re from.
I sure would move my kid to another school !
A teacher has no right to flatten or touch the hair of any of the children.
