Police have launched a public appeal for the mother of a newborn baby found abandoned in southwestern NSW.

A Griffith couple found the baby boy wrapped in a pink cloth bassinet outside their front door last night.  Police said the couple found the baby after answering their doorbell.

The baby has been taken to Griffith Base Hospital for assessment and is believed to have been born on Friday morning.

Police are urging the boy’s mother to come forward.  They hold concerns for her health and believe the mother may be in her teen years.

If you or someone you know has information regarding this matter, please contact NSW police ASAP.

  • yes it is sad that this happened but good that she tried to make sure the baby would be found vs leaving it elsewhere.

  • I feel so sad for the mother, it must be terrible to need to do this. I can’t even begin to imagine the situation she was in. But at the same time I’m glad that she didn’t just dump the baby somewhere that harm could come to Bub.

  • I hope the mother is ok. To leave your baby you must really be struggling. I won’t judge as you never know what has caused her to do this. I’m glad this baby is safe

  • I hope that they can find her and get her the help she needs. Not everyone can cope with being pregnant, birthing a baby and being a parent. I am glad she wrapped her baby warmly & took it to a home where she thought the child would be cared for.
