BREAKING NEWS UPDATE:

DC Police have given a press conference regarding the Capitol Hill lockdown today.

Stating preliminary information, the Police Chief confirmed the lockdown and stated that no officers have been injured in the incident.

One female bystander has been injured, with the suspect being shot when he threatened officers with a weapon.

The Police Chief said at this stage the incident was being viewed as a criminal act carried out by a single person who was known to police.  Terrorism did not appear to be the motivator for the incident.

More updates will be given as information comes to hand.

  • There is conflicting reports here. It was in the Visitors Centre, probably before you reach the security checks.
Once when we were on a coach tour we went into a Govt. building in a tour on 2 separate occasions. My Mum forgot she had a pair of small nail scissors in her handbag nd thought nothing of it. The first time they weren’t detected. The 2nd time they were. They took them from her, gave her a receipt and gave them back to her when we left. Our tour guide pointed out that they hadn’t been detected earlier in the day and we hadn’t been anywhere she could have bought them in that time.

    • Strange, isn’t it? They must have had a problem with the detecting system then. I had the small scissors removed once while travelling by plane with my then 10-months old daughter. I didn’t even think about them. I knew I had them, but I didn’t realize they were not allowed on the plane. Stupid of me of course. So they threw them away. And then I had to go and buy another pair when we landed. That of course I left in the suitcase when we came back. ;-)

  • Wow, reminds me of when a man got into the Queen’s bedroom at Buckingham Palace. Just shows that no one is ever totally safe.
