POLICE have confirmed more than one Brisbane school has been evacuated in similar circumstance that occurred in Sydney and Melbourne last month.

The Courier Mail says Bounty Boulevard State School in North Lakes is among the Brisbane schools to be evacuated.

 

Dozens of police have arrived at Town High, along with fireys and ambos. Hearing there have been a number of bomb threats across the state.

Reports suggest a school in Townsville is also being searched by police following a bomb scare.

The threats follow a number of similar calls made to schools in Sydney yesterday.

Queensland Police confirmed an operation was under way.

A Department of Education Queensland spokesman would only say that a “number of threatening calls had been made”.

Canberra schools

Four Canberra schools were evacuated before midday after a bomb threat.

ACT Police said the schools were being evacuated as a precaution after a threatening call was made. They are currently investigating.

Lanyon High School, Forest Primary, Richardson Primary and Kingsford Smith School in Holt were all temporarily evacuated. Students were returned to school around 1pm and classes resumed.

Victoria Police is aware that a number of Victorian schools have received a threatening phone call today.

The schools have enacted their emergency management plans as a precaution.

It appears to be a series of hoax calls similar to last week’s incidents, designed to cause disruption and attract media attention.

We are aware that schools in a number of other states have also received similar phone calls today.

Tasmania

Tas Police have posted this afternoon that they  have received several unsubstantiated reports of threatening calls made towards a number of schools in Tasmania.

There is no evidence these are anything other than hoaxes designed to cause unnecessary disruption and inconvenience and are consistent with threats made to schools in other states.

The threats appear to come from overseas with no credible evidence they could be carried out here.

Investigations are underway and we are liaising with the Department of Education. Each affected school is following appropriate procedures to ensure safety of all.
