Hello!

You’ll never risk the infamous rolling-of-the-eyes that signify ‘this is so boring’ from any of your kids if you holiday in Western Australia’s gorgeous Broome.

Broome is an awesome holiday destination with kids because it offers plenty of outdoor adventure for the entire family with each new day even more exciting than the last!

Broome has an ultra-laid back vibe, definitively Australian, red landscape with white, sandy beaches and sunny, blue skies. Broome is perfect for your next family getaway.

Getting to Broome

Booking your Broome family escape is simple, with direct flights available from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, and connecting flights from all other major cities.

There are plenty of kid-friendly accomodation options

Broome has a range of modern, fantastic options for your family holiday.  Usually, these include at least one swimming pool and most of them are close to family-friendly cafés. With so many websites and phone apps designed to find you the best accomodation deals available, you aren’t short of places to stay.

Free and inexpensive family activities

There are plenty of free activities your kids are sure to enjoy in and around Broome, including the newly upgraded waterpark at Town Beach, playground on the Cable Beach foreshore and the skate park.

Broome has a fabulous recreation centre which offers a range of wet and dry activities. You can find a lagoon pool, spa, tennis and basketball courts, along with a creche and cafe.

If you want to learn about the history, the local museum contains displays on pearling, shells and includes a myriad of photographs and literature designed to teach you a thing or two!

Broome’s weekend and monthly Staircase to the Moon Markets are an experience that everyone will enjoy. The beaches also host fabulous activities like mini-golf, boogie board and bicycle hire and camel rides or a hovercraft flight along Cable Beach and Roebuck Bay. You also can’t forget to take in a movie at the oldest operating picture gardens in the world.

How about a self-guided, sign-posted cultural walk through the dunes of Cable Beach, stopping to read the interesting information plaques? BYO hats, sunscreen, sunglasses and water.

Outdoor adventure tours

Broome is not short on activities, there’s so much to find out about the landscape and history! While a full day out reef fishing may be a bit much for the younger family, a half day option is available.

Most kids love the ocean, and sea-kayaking is a fantastic way to check out some of the local aquatic life around Broome. If your tribe feels the need for a little speed, a guided town tour by Harley Trike will be sure to rustle their feathers.

Not many places offer the beautiful views of the night sky the way that Broome does. You can watch the night skies through a range of telescopes and learn about the stars and planets around us. This is definitely something your kids will love.

Try out an eco-cruise to find the rare Snubfin Dolphins in Roebuck Bay, or, during winter, catch a glimpse of some of the gorgeous Humpback whales that cruise the coast in the afternoon. The kids also get to take home a gift.

Rest assured, a holiday to Broome is absolutely perfect for your entire family.

Toddlers, tweens and even those often hard-to-please teenagers will have an absolute blast — and so will you!

For a more adventurous day out, there are guided tours to take you further into the Kimberley to explore remote gorges or beaches.

If giving the family a taste of camping is on your list but without the hassle of packing the family wagon with all that gear, perhaps exploring the Kimberley on a guided, camping tour might just be a perfect option, with some time in Broome before or after your tour.

  • Stumbled across this great article as we wait for the gov subsidised flights and potentially score a deal to finally visit Broome! The camel ride on Cable Beach has been a bucket list item for awhile now!

  • We’ve never been to WA together as a family. It’s on our to do list and a place that we often talk about. I like the idea of Fremantle, but know of people who have been to, and loved Broome. Thanks for the tips.

  • I really want to go to Broome. It’s just so expensive to get there. Unfortunately it is cheaper to go overseas that visit many places in Australia. I was looking up flights for Broome yesterday and flights were over a thousand dollars return.

  • Camping is OK if you can cope with the hot humid weather. In Winter it may be cold at night. Most residences are aircondtioned and constantly used. The cost of living is very expensive there so unless you get a special deal or are camping it would not be a budget destination for the average wage earner.
