The best advice I can give you, as a mother of seven, to any mother lucky enough to be expecting, is to document the birth of your baby.
I started documenting the birth of my seventh baby as soon as labour started – making videos and taking photos, explaining what I was experiencing and my tips and tricks for getting through it, so that one day if one of my little ones is lucky enough to be expecting, and they feel scared I can hopefully give them my experience to watch to try and bring them some comfort.
I made it for them, but honestly the strength I feel from watching it myself is unbelievably empowering.
There is something so immensely powerful about seeing yourself, actually watching your own self getting through the process of birthing your baby, which enables and empowers you to get through all of life’s other challenging experiences you may go through.
You have a comparison, no matter what obstacles you face, to be able to relate it to – and you know you made it through the birth of your baby successfully, as you will anything else that comes your way.
If you make it through the birth of your baby, you can handle anything else that life throws at you and that is one of the most empowering feelings – something which I believe many mothers lose sight of or don’t give themselves enough credit for.
As the years go by, I guess we forget about what giving birth was like, which makes it harder to use as motivation to succeed through other struggles in life. And that’s where documenting it, will not only empower your child one day, but you as well…. every single time you doubt your inner strength or question your ability.
You are strong. You are courageous. You are a mother. And you will succeed though anything!
