Colour, Make, Model, single or dual cab?
Do you want the sports model or a saloon?
Did you ever think it would be so tricky, time consuming and expensive? My husband said it was harder than buying a new car!!
Things to consider when choosing a pram include:
-
Single or double (especially if you are planning another baby)
-
If double, side by side or back/front?
-
Does it fit through a standard doorway?
- Can it fit into the boot of your car without having to dismantle it?
-
Can you lift it into the car or is it just too heavy?
- Is it within your budget?
- Where will you mainly be walking as this determines the best wheel size, e.g. on tracks/rough ground you need a bigger wheel than on the footpath.
- Does it meet the Australian Safety Standards? This means being careful if you buy a secondhand pram.
- Can it recline flat for a newborn baby?
- Is the carry basket underneath accessible and practical for your use?
- Can the height of the handle be adjusted to suit both you and your partner?
- What colour do you want? Remembering for resale value a standard colour often sells better.
- Do you want extras such as rain cover?
Top Tips:
- Buy it at a place where you can take it outside and wheel it around.
- Take it out and lift it and fit it into your car.
- Talk to other parents about their view on their pram.
- Do your research on price as it can vary a lot.
All of this research can save you lots of money- I have friends who have been through 4 prams as none of them “worked” for them. If you take your time and do your research you will hopefully select a pram that works well for you and your family.
