Kate Reddy is back! This is the follow-up to the international bestseller I Don’t Know How She Does It, the novel that defined modern life for women everywhere. This time she’s juggling teenagers, ageing parents and getting back into the workplace, and every page will have you laughing and thinking: It’s not just me.

Kate Reddy is counting down the days until she is fifty, but not in a good way. Fifty, in Kate’s mind, equals invisibility. And with hormones that have her in shackles, teenage children who need her there but won’t talk to her and ailing parents who aren’t coping, Kate is in the middle of a sandwich that she isn’t even allowed to eat because of the calories.

She’s back at work after a big break at home, because somebody has to bring home the bacon now that her husband Rich has dropped out of the rat race to master the art of mindfulness. But just as Kate is finding a few tricks to get by in her new workplace, her old client and flame Jack reappears – complicated doesn’t even begin to cover it.

This is a coming of age story for turning fifty. It’s about so much more than a balancing act; it’s about finding out who you are and what you need to feel alive when you’ve got used to being your own last priority. And every page will leave you feeling that there’s a bit of Kate Reddy in all of us.

  • I would simply adore this,
a pamper day for me in pure bliss.
My feet up and in my night gown,
There will be smiles all around.

  • Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

  • A secluded beach under a beach umbrella, a great novel, relaxing music and a long cool drink and snooze and read for the day, bliss!

  • Put my feet up and watch a good movie.

  • I would love to sit in the spring sunshine and read a book! Ohhh bliss!

  • There is always some cleaning to be done but a bit of gardening, a good book, a fancy dinner and a nice hot bath would be amazing.

  • I would be lost, maybe just sit around and enjoy the quiet.

  • Explore my own city as a tourist would to discover new places, sights and activities. Starting at the local hotel, raiding the brochure kiosk and checking out a couple of the featured activities that pique my interest.

  • Sit in silence for at least an hour, no kids whining, no pets begging for food, no husband asking for things. Then I’d call my sister overseas for an uninterrupted talk, and after that, try and catch up with some friends. Coffee, laughter and sharing stories. Sounds like bliss!

  • Quite frankly as I have had so little time off I would stay in bed as long as I could stand, and then mooch around in my PJs watching bad TV and eating bad food to indulge!

  • Drive myself to a rainforest, turn my phone off and spend all day reading or novel writing with a nice, relaxing veiw and SILENCE!

  • Head to my day spa appointment for a half day top to toe makeover then head to a movie and finish off with a degustation dinner at a 5 star restaurant with a friend.

  • A day off seems so hard to get these days being a working mum! I’d love to do the simple things, sleep in, enjoy a delicious, breakfast in bed, as well as go shopping, have a catch up with my girlfriends and a dessert cafe trip!

  • Just pause.. Sit and relax, catch my breath and enjoy a cuppa in peace.

  • Get my husband to take one off as well and start the day with breakfast at the beach and fit in a couples massage and a trip to the movies to watch something other than Disney or Pixar!
